Kelly Services has partnered with a leading steel fabricator in Indianapolis seeking a Production Manager to oversee all aspects of shop production in the expanding facility. The Production Manager will be responsible for coordinating and supervising material receiving and processing, fit/weld operations, blast and paint processes, loading, shipping, forklift and crane operations, and other related activities. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of quality control procedures and principles, as well as experience in the steel industry with experience in structural steel welding.

Responsibilities:
  • Monitor activities and equipment to ensure compliance with code requirements and quality control procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Quality Control Manager to address and rectify any work that does not meet code requirements.
  • Work with the Plant Manager to develop efficient and productive methods for fabricating steel that meet quality guidelines.
  • Assign and monitor work in designated areas to ensure adherence to fabrication schedules and quality standards.
  • Provide direction and supervision to shop employees, ensuring the completion of shop prep work according to project schedules.
  • Check the quality of shop prep work performed by employees under their direction.
  • Properly utilize steel inventory in accordance with shop procedures and report utilization to the inventory control clerk on a daily basis.
  • Participate in project meetings, including kick-off meetings, production meetings, and closeout meetings.
  • Coordinate between Project Management and Shop Supervisors to ensure smooth communication and workflow.
Requirements:
  • Proven experience in a production management role, in a steel fabrication or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of quality control procedures and principles, with a commitment to upholding these standards.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to effectively coordinate multiple tasks and meet production schedules.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory abilities to direct and motivate shop employees.
  • Familiarity with inventory control procedures and utilization tracking.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with various stakeholders, including Project Management and Shop Supervisors.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
