Managing Lead Counsel, Strategic Pricing & Manufacturer Relationships (SPMR)

Business Segment: Pharmaceutical Solutions and Services (PSaS)

Location: Dallas, Texas (Preferred)

Current Need

McKesson’s well-regarded Law Department is seeking an experienced healthcare transactional lawyer with regulatory experience to serve as the lead attorney overseeing all legal and regulatory aspects of McKesson’s Pharmaceutical Solutions and Services (PSaS) Specialty drug sourcing and distribution solutions segment, which includes all domestic drug purchase and distribution contracting with Specialty pharmaceutical manufacturers.

PSaS’s distribution networks supply pharmaceutical products and other healthcare-related services and technology products to a wide range of retail pharmacy, health system, and physician clinic providers. Our nationwide network of full line and regional specialty distribution centers supplies medication to 1/3 of all healthcare providers in the United States. McKesson frequently invests in technology and other systems to enhance the quality, safety and reliability of our distribution services and technology offerings. Our relationship with pharmaceutical manufacturers is a key component of the success of our business.

Position Description

Primary responsibilities:

  • Oversees routine day-to-day legal support for the Specialty pharmaceutical manufacturer segment, including senior legal support for contract drafting, negotiation and strategy for our largest and most strategic Specialty product manufacturer partners;
  • Accountable for coordination of legal risk tolerances and contracting standards, processes, and strategy in support of the Specialty product manufacturer segment;
  • Manages a team of legal professionals that provide cross-functional support services for the above areas;
  • Serves as the key legal advisor to PSaS senior leadership on a wide array of topics relating to the Specialty manufacturer segment needs, including legal risk mitigation, manufacturer relationship management, and strategic initiatives and compliance programs; and
  • Frequent interactions with other internal legal and business stakeholders across functional groups.

Key Clients: SPMR Specialty VP and team


Minimum Requirements

13+ years of corporate law experience

Large law firm experience combined with in-house experience, strongly preferred

Critical Skills

  • Excellent commercial contract drafting and negotiation skills
  • High comfort providing healthcare regulatory advice (Anti-kickback law, FCA, government price reporting, 340B, government contracting, antitrust)
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical manufacturer space (FDA market access, supply chain channel strategy)
  • Proven legal team management experience, and a strong desire to develop and manage a team of high-functioning legal professionals
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to provide sound, clear legal advice to all levels within the company, including senior business executives
  • Highly responsive, proactive, solutions-oriented approach
  • Ability to work closely with, facilitate interactions within, and influence large cross-functional teams (including representatives from other areas of the law department, regulatory and compliance professionals, sellside business colleagues and operations managers)
  • Notable business acumen dealing with risk management and organizational savvy
  • Must be a team player who can develop strong working relationships and work collaboratively with internal clients and other members of the legal senior team.
  • Ability to lead by example including a willingness to “roll up your sleeves” and undertake day-to-day legal work

Education

Juris Doctor Degree with excellent academic credentials. Member of a jurisdiction is required.

This is determined by several factors, including performance, experience and skills, equity, regular job market evaluations, and geographical markets. In addition to base pay, other compensation, such as an annual bonus or long-term incentive opportunities may be offered.

Our Base Pay Range for this position

$181,100 - $301,900
