Overview:
The Logistics and Fleet Manager oversees the efficient operation of transportation and distribution activities within an organization. This pivotal role requires meticulous planning, coordination, and management of resources to ensure timely delivery of goods while optimizing costs and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
· Fleet Management: Manage the organization's fleet of vehicles, including trucks, vans, and other transport assets. This involves scheduling maintenance, repairs, and inspections to ensure vehicles are safe, reliable, and compliant with regulations.
· Route Planning and Optimization: Develop and implement efficient transportation routes to minimize fuel consumption, reduce delivery times, and optimize resource utilization. Utilize routing software and real-time data to adjust routes as needed.
· Inventory Management: Collaborate with inventory and warehouse teams to coordinate the movement of goods from suppliers to distribution centers and ultimately to customers. Maintain accurate inventory records and implement strategies to minimize stockouts and excess inventory.
· Supplier and Vendor Relations: Establish and maintain relationships with transportation providers, suppliers, and vendors to negotiate favorable terms, ensure timely deliveries, and resolve any issues that may arise.
· Compliance and Safety: Stay abreast of transportation regulations and safety standards to ensure compliance at all levels of operation. Implement training programs and protocols to promote safe driving practices and prevent accidents.
· Cost Management: Develop and manage budgets for transportation and logistics operations, identifying cost-saving opportunities and implementing strategies to optimize spending without sacrificing service quality.
· Performance Monitoring and Analysis: Track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as on-time delivery rates, fuel efficiency, and maintenance costs. Analyze data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and opportunities to enhance operational efficiency.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or a related field. Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., Certified Supply Chain Professional) is a plus.
· Proven experience in logistics, transportation, or fleet management, with a demonstrated ability to oversee complex operations and drive continuous improvement.
· Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate across departments and lead a team of logistics professionals.
· Proficiency in transportation management software, route optimization tools, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry best practices is essential.
