Confidential is looking for a Plant manager to join our team near our Camp Hill location. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to join a stable and growing team. In this role the Plant Manager directs, coordinates and plans the activities of production scheduling, maintenance and manufacturing operations, (three shifts) personally or through direct reporting supervisors or manager. The ideal candidate will work closely with quality and engineering departments. The plant manager is also responsible for keeping manufacturing and maintenance focused on achieving short and long range goals of productivity, quality, cost reduction and customer satisfaction resulting in increased competitiveness and profitability.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Production Scheduling - overall goal is to provide a quality product when the customer wants it with a minimum of raw material, work in process and finished goods inventory.
  • Establishes and monitors goals for order fill, orders completed by due date as well as inventory levels.   Ensures goals are communicated to the production schedulers.  Provides guidance as required to achieve these goals. Also, provides feedback on performance on a regular basis.  Other goals and objectives may be assigned.
  • Meets with production supervisors and schedulers to establish a daily plant schedule, which best utilizes available resources.
  • Focuses on achieving a synchronous operation to eliminate over production at some work centers while others are out of work.  Develops data bases to better reflect the shop load at various machines and production lines.
  • Manufacturing acumen - Overall goal for manufacturing is also to provide a quality product when the customer wants it with a focus on improving competitiveness and profitability through better efficiency, utilization, and productivity.
  • Establishes and monitors goals for hours required to produce a ton of products, order fill, orders completed by due date, scrap, rework, and orders closed short.  Ensures goals are communicated to manufacturing supervisors and the employees on the shop floor.  Provides guidance as required to achieve these goals. Also, provides feedback on performance on a regular basis.  Other goals and objectives may be assigned.
  • Directs the activities of supervisors.  Develops their skills in identifying and initiating action to correct deficiencies with equipment or processes. Also, promotes giving recognition for superior performance and initiating action to improve substandard performance on a regular basis.
  • Identifies ways of improving equipment and processes through observation and communication with employees performing the work.   Many improvements will be accomplished through “hands on work” or if required, with the assistance of maintenance and / or engineering departments.  Communicates significant changes to all three shifts before making them.
  • Promotes teamwork rather than individual effort.  Lean manufacturing requires teamwork starting with supervision, maintenance and engineering continuing to the employees working within the work cells on the manufacturing floor.
  • Monitors daily productivity and quality through reports and by interacting with the employees on the floor.
  • Initiates action, which may involve maintenance, engineering, or quality control to resolve productivity, quality, or safety issues.
  • Assists in the development of short and long-range capital spending plans.  Involved in the process of approving new equipment purchases as well as the installation and startup of this equipment.
  • Reviews new products with engineering and provides input on any manufacturing issues.
  • Reviews quality reports on rework / scrap and resolves related issues to ensure product going to the customer is of the highest quality. Assists in the development of quality standards and work instructions.
  • Reviews and provides input to proposed changes to company rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Answers questions and interprets company rules, policies, and procedures.  Reviews disciplinary action taken to ensure it is in accordance with company rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Resolves employee complaints / issues personally or with the assistance of the director of manufacturing and / or human resource department.
  • Reviews emergency plans and procedures regarding fire or flood as established by the director of safety.  Reviews and approves proposed changes that would improve working conditions and safety within the manufacturing facility. Ensures the enforcement of safety rules and policies as established by DPI as well as OSHA and other state and government agencies.
  • Fills in on the floor in the absence of a manufacturing supervisor.
  • Maintenance: Overall goal for maintenance is to support manufacturing and the distribution facility as required, to enable them to achieve established goals.
  • Establishes and monitors goals for equipment uptime, preventive maintenance, and spare parts inventory.   Ensures that established goals are communicated to the maintenance manager and the technicians.  Provides guidance as required to achieve these goals. Also, provides feedback on performance on a regular basis.
  • Directs the activities of the maintenance manager. Assists the maintenance manager in establishing priorities and sequences of maintenance work to be performed.
  • Monitors performance using CMMS (computer maintenance management system) and by observing technicians responding to equipment failures and / or performing more routine project work.  Initiate action to resolve any productivity, quality, or safety issues.
  • Promotes teamwork between maintenance and manufacturing.
  • Fills in on the floor in the absence of the maintenance manager.
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements/Education/Qualifications:

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, area, percentages, proportions, circumference, and volume.
  • Education or experience:
  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or five to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ten plus years directly managing people.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance
  • instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
  • Physical Requirement: Capability to lift 20 pounds.
  • Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach, swivel, carry items from one building to another, and speak and actively listen. The noise level is usually moderate.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $125,700.00 per year
