Major Duties and Responsibilities

Under general direction, designs and implements high availability solutions, performs solutions design, provides technical Tier III support, develops project plans with project manager, or recommends approach through defining tasks and/or leading meetings relating to design, implementation, operation, and ongoing maintenance of databases systems: designs/plans cluster nodes hardware selection and recommendations; configures/sets-up cluster nodes, sets-up interconnects, and configures cluster-aware storage; installs cluster ware and database management system (DBMS) software on all nodes; monitors load balance and tunes cluster parameters for high performance; configures standby servers; configures and implements log shipping; configures and implements replication; works with IT Architecture staff, Chief Information Officer (CIO), and/or IT Managers to design solutions that meet agency requirements; assists in analysis of the solution design's business case; authors' portions of the solution business case.

Determines business intelligence data needs; defines the data warehouse/business intelligence design; implements data warehouses and data marts; implements business intelligence tools and user interfaces; implements enterprise reporting, management dashboards, and scorecards; implements analytic applications; replicates and transforms data for business intelligence; develops standards/best practices; creates documentation of installation procedures, monitoring procedures, security policies, configuration changes, migration procedures, and best practices for development teams.

Conducts performance tuning system configuration running on multiple platforms; tunes data manipulation model; designs standards for the exchange of data between systems, including data security models; analyzes multi-dimensional models.

Develops database strategies to support business needs; applies principles, theories, practices, and techniques of project planning to assist IT Project Managers in achieving successful project outcomes; plans and conducts formal mentorship activities for peers and/or lower-level staff via verbal instruction or technical documentation.

Job duty, knowledge, skill, and ability statements at a lower-level are understood to be able to be performed at any higher level. May be placed on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Required to carry and respond to pager/cellular phone as assigned. Travel required, as needed. Must provide own transportation or, in order to operate a state vehicle, you must have a valid drivers license.

Hybrid Work Details

Subject to DCYs teleworking policy and an approved teleworking agreement, this position is eligible to work from a remote location on a hybrid basis. The selected applicant may be required to complete initial trainings prior to being eligible to telework. All requests to telework are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and must be approved by DCY’s Deputy Director of Human Resources and management, subject to the conditions outlined in the agency policy and teleworking agreement.

Qualifications


OPTION 1

  • Completion of undergraduate core program in computer science or information systems; AND
  • 36 mos. combined work experience in any combination of the following: designing and implementing high availability solutions, performing solutions design, providing technical Tier III database support, developing project plans with project manager or recommending approach through defining tasks and/or leading meetings relating to design, implementation, operation and ongoing maintenance of databases systems including 12 mos. work experience in the primary technology specified by the agency in the position description & job posting
  • Or

OPTION 2

  • Completion of associate core program in computer science or information systems; AND
  • 42 mos. combined work experience in any combination of the following: designing and implementing high availability solutions, performing solutions design, providing technical Tier III database support, developing project plans with project manager or recommending approach through defining tasks and/or leading meetings relating to design, implementation, operation and ongoing maintenance of databases systems including 12 mos. work experience in the primary technology specified by the agency in the position description & job posting.

  • 60 mos. combined work experience in any combination of the following: designing and implementing high availability solutions, performing solutions design, providing technical Tier III database support, developing project plans with project manager or recommending approach through defining tasks and/or leading meetings relating to design, implementation, operation and ongoing maintenance of databases systems including 12 mos. work experience in the primary technology specified by the agency in the position description & job posting.

  • Equivalent of minimum class qualifications for employment noted above.

Preferred minimum qualifications:

  • Experience in maintaining/managing the Relational databases such as ORACLE/MSSQL are very essential to this position.
  • Hands on Experience with RAC (Real Application Clusters), multitenancy, and Data Guard will also be essential to maintain large scale databases/applications. Experience in managing databases in UNIX/Linux/AIX environments is preferrable.
  • Experience with Always On and clustering will be required to support MSSQL Server environments.
  • PL/SQL skills in Oracle & SQL server environment will be a plus.

Unless required by legislation or union contract, starting salary will be the minimum salary of the salary range 36 (step 1, currently $40.70 per hour) associated with this position.
