Job Summary

Conduct security investigations involving internal and external customers to achieve favorable outcomes as related to Corewell Health. Document outcomes and root cause analyses relating to critical events. Document trends and patterns and make recommendations to Security Services Management.

Essential Functions

  • Diligently and appropriately utilize Police Authority to arrest for both felonies and misdemeanors on designated Corewell Health Properties under Michigan Law (PA 330).
  • Diligently and appropriately utilize citation / ticket writing and ordinance enforcement authority under Michigan Law (PA 330) and local city ordinances.
  • May be required to possess, carry, and utilize firearms, tasers, and other weapons in conjunction with the MCOLES force continuum as determined by BH policy.
  • Coordinates investigative action with law enforcement agencies, private security organizations, or governmental agencies such as the IRS, FBI, ATF, DEA, U.S. Postal Service, MSP, local police, etc. in order to determine the existence of criminal conduct and/or violations of Corewell Health policy and procedures.
  • Prepares documentation of investigative findings obtained through interrogations or interviewing techniques. Review video and documentation. Prepares related summaries and reports as required. Forwards findings and recommendations to appropriate individuals. Testifies at legal proceedings pertaining to internal, civil, or criminal activities as indicated.
  • Reviews all incident reports and plans/ schedules follow up action or investigations as required and determines the circulation of incident reports within the Corewell Health.
  • Responsible for maintenance of the department incident report filing system and incident pattern book. Assist in the evaluation and analysis of reports on criminal matters.
  • Participates in seminars and workshops regarding crime prevention, investigative/interviewing techniques, security methods/techniques, etc. to develop and maintain technical knowledge and skills.
  • Conducts investigations involving lost and found property, background checks, criminal and civil complaints, and other types as assigned.
  • Participates in quality improvement teams as required.
  • Assesses healthcare environment for security and safety hazards which could harm patients, visitors, or employees and reports on such hazards verbally and in writing.
  • Conduct investigation and follow up on patients using false names to obtain services.
  • Develops and implements crime prevention programs within Corewell Health.
  • Responsible for collection and disposition of all safekeeping property, evidence, found property. Handle property disposition and audit on a monthly basis.
  • Responds as directed to emergency situations throughout Corewell Health such as fires, disturbances, accidents, criminal activity, and bomb threats.
  • Works with other Beaumont Health security personnel as well as staff from other sites and departments regarding investigations and/or surveillance.
  • Assist Emergency Department staff with Hazmat/ Decontamination procedures to include donning and doffing of PAPR’s/ Tyvek suits as well as providing security and keeping order in the decontamination area.
  • Assist nursing staff with physical management/ restraint of patients as ordered by a physician.
  • In dealing with non-patient aggressors, use defensive tactics and approved MCOLES force continuum if necessary to safeguard lives and well-being of staff, patients, and visitors.
  • May provide CPR/ first aid in the event of a medical emergency on the grounds or in common areas until trained medical staff can arrive from the Emergency Department (acute care) or Local Fire Department (ambulatory) as per EMTALA law.
  • Use proactive non-violent verbal de-escalation skills to neutralize volatile situations involving patients, staff, and visitors without escalating the event into a violent incident.
  • Completes all other duties and projects as assigned by the security management team.

Qualifications

  • Required High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred Associate's Degree or equivalent Completion of an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice or graduation from a state regulated Police Academy is highly desired.
  • Preferred Successful completion or certification from an accredited investigative course such as completion of the Reed Interview and Interrogation course
  • 3 years of relevant experience Three years documented experience as a case investigator in a hospital, law enforcement or security field Required
  • 3 years of relevant experience Minimum of three years’ related work experience as a police officer; hospital security, corporate security, reserve police officer or military police. May consider other experience related to crowd control and security. Required
  • LIC-Driver's License - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire required
  • LIC-Michigan Concealed Pistol License - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire required
