General Summary

The purpose of this classification is to oversee the design, implementation, monitoring, maintenance, and performance of the SCAG Enterprise Geodatabase; and lead data automation and maintenance efforts and contribute to detailed database design, improvement, and maintenance standards related to data entry and updating.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Senior GIS Database Administrator job is the advanced level within the career family. Individuals in this classification are responsible for GIS enterprise-wide database systems and possess specialized and technical expertise. This may be demonstrated by creating management methods and systems and implementing recommendations to improve GIS database management and data automation efforts.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

  • Supports the administration of ArcGIS Enterprise, including data maintenance, publishing, user setup, user support, security, service registration, and upgrades
  • Designs, architects, develops, and manages Geo Datasets
  • Monitors relational databases to ensure optimum performance and implements required improvement to database structures and processes
  • Troubleshoots data and database problems using well-developed troubleshooting techniques
  • Modifies database structures and designs as appropriate
  • Develops automation protocols for loading spatial data using data modeling and attribute mapping and manages the defined workflow routines
  • Develops and establishes procedures to monitor and maintain Enterprise GIS Architecture, Arc GIS Server and other related databases
  • Performs reasonably related duties within the scope of the classification as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Any combination of training, education, and experience that would provide the required skills, knowledge, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be with 5 years' experience in geodatabase administration and a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Classification has no level of supervision in the scope of work but may provide occasional direction to interns, temporary employees, and consultants.

Responsibilities may include: (1) assisting in the collection and preparation of data in support of recommendations for budget allocations, typically within an assigned department; (2) monitoring and documenting project budgets and expenditures; (3) supporting purchasing needs through ordering inventory and monitoring spending. Risk at this level is limited as errors can be identified and resolved quickly and may result in loss of incumbent’s time to correct the error or minor financial loss.
