General Summary

The purpose of this classification is to support the overall administration, maintenance, monitoring, and operations of database systems; oversee assigned database processes and programs; and perform technical and analytical support duties for SCAG databases.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Database Administrator job is the full performance level within the career family. Individuals in this classification possess comprehensive skills and perform assignments of moderate complexity using defined guidelines and policies. This may be demonstrated by developing, managing, and supporting databases and systems to provide applications and database support for effective operations and service delivery.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

  • Creates and maintains enterprise databases and system documentation
  • Designs and documents schemas for application databases and creates data structures and indexes
  • Administers database, including backup, recovery, monitoring, optimization, installation, configuration, and upgrading
  • Performs SQL Server software upgrade, installation, and configuration
  • Supports financial system, including performing system enhancements, fixes, and maintenance
  • Migrates data from the database to the format required by the application
  • Creates database reports
  • Reviews processes, identify areas of improvement, and resolves issues in the system
  • Performs reasonably related duties within the scope of the classification as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Any combination of training, education, and experience that would provide the required skills, knowledge, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be with 3 years' experience with database management including SQL Server administration and a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.

  • Classification has no responsibility for the direction or supervision of others.
