Onsite - This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Concord, NC on a full-time basis.

We are seeking a Tire Performance Engineer within the GM Motorsports NASCAR Tire Performance Team to support Trackhouse Racing. You will be responsible for directly interfacing with Trackhouse Racing, their Engineers, and the GM Motorsports NASCAR Tire Performance Team – this will include (but is not limited to) – DiL attendance, DiL Tire tuning sessions with the Teams and Tire Development Tuning sessions. Weekly reporting of all relevant tire information to aid in the Teams’ setup development will be accomplished by working closely with Team Simulation Engineers to aid in simulation preparation and development of future simulation models. Your attendance at Motorsports testing across the country – both with GM Motorsports and Trackhouse Racing is critical. In this constantly evolving environment, the GM Motorsports NASCAR Tire Performance Team works with innovative testing and analytical technologies to review tire force and moment (F&M) properties to virtually integrate tire performance to enable vehicle dynamics simulations for original equipment applications as well.

What You’ll Do:

  • Support Trackhouse Racing DiL sessions

  • Support GM Motorsports DiL sessions to aid in tire model development

  • Report weekly all relevant tire information needed for setup development and simulation preparation

  • Support real-time review of Wheel Force Transducer (WFT) data, tire model results and DiL outputs to determine required changes to bring in vehicle/tire balance on DiL or offline simulation

  • Domestic travel is required and expected 1-2x/month for 2-4 days in duration; tire testing occurs during the week - limited weekend travel may be required to arrive to the test facility

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or similar field

  • 2+ years of engineering experience following the completion of a degree

  • Visual Basic, MATLAB, or Python coding experience for modeling and analysis

  • Professional motorsports experience

  • Motorsports data acquisition software experience (Pi Toolbox, MoTeC, Atlas, etc.)

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a team, as well as work independently

  • Strong organization skills, forward thinking mentality, and a superb attention to detail

  • Ability to multi-task in a dynamic, constantly evolving environment, with exceptional work ethic and integrity

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience implementing tire models in real-time simulation environments to support Driver-in-the-Loop project activities

  • Race Engineering experience including vehicle setup development using simulation

  • Familiarity with vehicle testing methods and data reduction from on-track testing, SPMM, and 7-post
