Summary of Functions
A Procurement Specialist, or Purchasing Specialist, acquires a company’s various supplies. Main duties include locating key suppliers, negotiating the company’s purchasing agreements and making sure their materials and products meet the company’s specifications. Overall role is purchase goods, materials and services to ensure that the company operational needs are met, taking into account price, quality and delivery to ensure continuity supply.
Principle Responsibilities
General and Task Management
- Purchase goods, materials, components or services in line with specified cost, quality and delivery targets
- Support the purchasing function and other relevant departments and communicate any supply problems which may impact on business operations
- Act as an interface between suppliers and other relevant departments on purchasing processes and new projects and activities
- Monitor and advise on any issues which present risk or opportunity to the organization
- Monitor market trends, competitor strategies and market suppliers
- Provide analysis on costs, new and existing and review cost reduction activities
- Prepare reports and updates as and when required
- Work closely with others in the procurement function and review opportunities for continuous improvement and business improvements
- Negotiate contracts, improve prices and terms of business with suppliers and review opportunities to make business savings utilizing negotiation and procurement best practices tools and methods
- Prepare and raise purchase orders and order schedules
• Build, maintain and manage supplier relationships and keep up good communications • Ensure that a professional and consistent approach is taken in relation to all supplier relationships
- Ensure compliance to company guidelines, purchasing policies and procedures and guidance during supplier negotiations and contracts award process.
- Conduct research for new components and suppliers
- Compile data relating to supplier performance to enable evaluation
- Assess and evaluate suppliers and contribute to performance reviews to ensure contract compliance
- Contact suppliers to resolve price, quality, delivery or invoice issues

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or other related fields, preferred.
• Knowledge of computer and management system such as ERP, MRP, MES etc. • Experience in an automotive manufacturing company strongly preferred.
- 5+ year of experience in procurement and supply chain management at a manufacturing or processing company required.
- Strong negotiation skills required
- Strong communication skills with excellent relationship-building skills
- Strong supply chain management experience necessary with an emphasis on inventory management in a related industry
- Strong sense of ‘Number’ and calculation skills
• Proactive work ethic and ability to act in an ethical, honest and professional manner at all times • Organization and time management skills
- Ability to accurately follow detailed processes and procedures
- Overtime expected and required on short notice, with flexibility based on plant production schedules.
• Proficient, quick and, comfortable with personal computer navigation and operation. • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
Physical Requirements
The ability to lift up to 25 pounds to move objects is required. Must possess strength, stamina, and mobility to perform low physical work indoors with minimum exposure to dust. Walking, lifting, reaching, stooping, standing, grasping, balancing, climb, kneeling, and crouching are generally required for some assignments.
- Demonstrate the ability to hear and have specific vision abilities to adjust focus, in an environment subject to noise, dust, etc.
- The office is located inside the plant with equipment noise and frequent interruptions such as phone calls and contact with staffs
