As the Global Head, Direct Procurement, you will develop and implement the overall vision and strategic direction for Alcon within direct procurement (manufacturing, distribution, warehouse, freight etc.). You will be empowered for delivering the procurement objectives for Alcon including significant financial productivity, cash flow, risk mitigation and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set the vision for the procurement organization by strategically optimizing value, driving cost efficiencies, and managing supplier stakeholder relationships.
- Drive global, regional and local procurement initiatives to ensure realization of Alcon’s business objectives.
- Is a thought leader in the future strategic direction of the procurement function.
- Develops and maintains supply base and buying practices which ensure state of the art Sourcing and buying behavior in compliance and full alignment with business strategies and priorities.
- Design, lead, and direct manufacturing site procurement and large, global, cross-region and cross-divisional Tech Ops Categories to maximize value for the company overall by developing a Category Procurement strategy that leverages economies of scale, modifies demand, optimizes processes, and captures innovative and efficient Procurement solutions to provide a competitive edge to Alcon.
- Managing a large international team across 18+ locations
- Establish and maintain effective ongoing relationships with business partners and leaders across the organization.
- Establish and ensure Global and Local Procurement policies and practices are in accordance with corporate ethics, financial instructions and internal control requirements - Drive process simplification and clarity
- Develop and implement optimum global, regional, and local strategies (both cross divisional and cross functional as appropriate) and drive the implementation of such strategies on a global basis to ensure that business clients have timely access to leading edge technologies, products and services to generate value and competitive advantage.
- Provide decision leadership, project, and change management initiatives that challenge spending behavior, service level definition, and policy setting to implement productivity and efficiency improvements.
- Lead and direct a high performing and motivated professional team, responsible for interfacing with functional business partners and ensure ongoing development of skills including business partnering, change and project management and category knowledge, to enable best in class Sourcing and Category Management practices.
- Provide talent management leadership and mentoring to ensure a strong succession pipeline and excellence in strategy, change management and execution to enable development of best in class Sourcing and Category Management, as well as site procurement practices and tactical procurement requirements.
- Ensure Supplier Performance and Innovation is delivering increasing value
- Lead key projects for the business (incl. re-negotiation of key contracts or management of key change projects such as Endeavor or Compete), ensuring availability of benchmarking, research materials, providing advanced management information on procurement trends and analysis.
- Achieve productivity targets, standard cost, cash flow initiatives and overall value proposition and priorities aligned with the business requirements
- Increase Procurement effectiveness/ Share of savings that meet bottom line requirements (realize the benefits of productivity and process improvements such as, outsourcing, cross-divisional Category management, etc.)
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO ALCON:
- Bachelor’s degree required at a minimum, Master’s degree is a plus; in fields such as business administration, finance, supply chain or a scientific or technical field. Strong preference for CIPS or similar certification
- 12+ years of Procurement experience (5+ years in the healthcare industry or equivalent preferred).
- 8+ years of leadership experience leading and developing teams within a matrix organization and across geographies and cultures.
- Extensive experience in change and Category management.
