NiS is in search of a candidate to fulfill our GIS Engineer IT/DBA position in Omaha, NE. The GIS Engineer leverages advanced geospatial tech to analyze, manage, and visualize spatial data. They extract insights to inform strategic decisions, manage data accuracy and accessibility, and create easy-to-understand visualizations. The role demands proficiency in GIS software, spatial analysis, and data management, as well as collaboration and communication skills.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct sophisticated spatial analyses, including geoprocessing, network analysis, and spatial modeling, to derive actionable insights from geospatial data.
- Design, develop, and maintain geospatial databases, ensuring data integrity, accuracy, and efficiency. Create and manage data schemas, relationships, and metadata.
- Database programming and scripting within SQL Server environment and automation of geodatabase administration and management using Esri Python API, ArcGIS REST APIs, shell & batch scripting.
- Develop custom GIS applications and tools using programming languages like Python or JavaScript to automate workflows, enhance GIS functionality, and optimize data processing.
- Provide technical support to end-users, resolve GIS-related issues, and offer training and guidance to ensure effective utilization of GIS tools and resources.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or JavaScript for geospatial application development and automation.
- Strong understanding of geodatabase design, spatial data formats (e.g., shapefiles, geodatabases), and coordinate systems.
- Proven ability to perform advanced spatial analyses, spatial modeling, and geostatistical analysis to extract meaningful insights from geospatial data.
- Ability to convey complex GIS concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor of Science degree in the field of computer science, information technology, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of demonstrated relevant experience in GIS technology, database administration, and systems administration.
- ArcGIS SDE geodatabase administration within an Esri/Windows Server/SQL Server environment.
- Experience with version control and Continuous Integration systems (e.g. Git, Jenkins).
- Experience with Esri technology, Python, SQL, or other scripting/geospatial application development tools.
