Job Summary: Reporting to the Production Supervisor, an FPI Reader inspects castings for flaws, defects, cracks and/or the presence of foreign materials.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Verifies that parts are free of oil and grease.
  • Verifies that each part has a heat treat code stamped legibly in the appropriate area.

· Reads and interprets penetrant indications to accept or reject castings.

· Monitors the penetrant process to ensure all parameters are maintained.

a. References operational documents as needed.

· Completes calibration checks to verify system is operating at the proper sensitivity level.

· Marks defects appearing from penetrant inspection and assists in analyzing findings.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Near Vision: Jaeger Type 2 at 12 inches (30.5 cm) or greater
  • Color Vision: Must demonstrate normal color perception on all 15 Ishihara plates.
  • Must be able to read and understand work instructions.
  • Must be able to write and complete required paperwork.
  • Must have basic math skills – add, subtract, multiply and divide.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Must be team oriented.
  • Must be able to problem solve and troubleshoot.
  • Must pass both practical and written exam upon completion of training

Education and Experience:

· High school diploma or equivalent

Work Environment:

· The job works in conditions with constant exposure to noise, odors, dust, drafts and chemicals.

· May include seasonally hot and humid conditions for extended periods of time.

Physical Requirements:

· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

· Bending/Twisting 40%

· Standing 100%

· Walking 50%

· Reaching 10%

· Lifting 15%

· Stooping 5%

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: Hourly full-time position 40 hours per week with overtime or weekend hours as needed to support production.
