Job Title: Composites Laboratory Technician

Job Summary: The Composites Laboratory Technician is a full-time position that will work with advanced thermoset and thermoplastic carbon fiber composite materials, primarily for the Defense and Aerospace markets. This individual will be responsible for molding via press, RTM, VARTM, in and out of Autoclave, and preparing samples for testing using sensitive analytical instruments. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required for reporting findings.

FLSA Status:Full-time, Hourly Non-Exempt; Paid Weekly, authorized to work in the US (sponsorship is not offered)
Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:
- Outstanding observation and aptitude for a science-based environment.
- Weigh and prepare samples and small batches and heat-curing of chemicals and composite materials for testing and analysis.
- Cutting and lay-up of carbon fiber composite materials for testing.
- Oven/heat curing of thermosetting composite materials.
- Consolidation & molding of thermoplastic composite materials.
- Machining of test coupons using precision grinder and cutters.
- Conduct analysis on samples per established procedures and equipment.
- Weighing of chemicals for small (lab) batch mixing of polymer resin solutions.
- Setup and changeover of molds & fittings as required for RTM, VARTM, compression molding.
- Analyze retrieved data and prepare reports for laboratory management.
- Document observations and maintain good communication with Supervisor.
- Maintain testing schedule in support of manufacturing operations.
- Adhere to the quality procedures for sample testing and report writing.
- Assist with verifying and calibrating laboratory equipment.
- Follow all company policies and procedures to ensure product integrity and quality control.
- Maintain compliant laboratory documentation.
- Maintain 6-S standards for clean, organized lab and supplies.
- Hands-on ensuring successful project completion start-to-finish.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Education/Experience
- High School Diploma or GED. Associates Degree in a Technical Field preferred
- Previous Quality experience a plus.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint).
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to communicate observations
- Experience wearing PPE and working with chemicals
- Ability to speak and read English
- Ability to wear necessary PPE properly
- Ensure that the data is entered correctly and timely on reports.
