Job Summary
Airfield Maintenance Technician III leads in assigning and directing the field operations of assigned Airport Maintenance Technician I and II in completing scheduled maintenance and repair tasks, participates in work and activity planning and prioritization related to area of responsibility and overall service objectives of the section. Perform both skilled journeyman maintenance and operations tasks and skilled maintenance services on all grounds, facilities and equipment of Dallas Love Field, Dallas Executive Airport and the Convention Center Vertiport, exercising independent judgment and initiative. Under general supervision, Airfield Maintenance Technician II assists, supports, and performs skilled labor in maintaining the airport in order to meet Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements under 14 CFR Part 139 for airport operations and maintenance and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) rules for airfield security; ensures compliance with City codified ordinances and general airport rules and environmental regulations. Airfield Maintenance Technician II is responsible for various activities related to the day-to-day operations and duties associated with the safety, operations, maintenance and security of a municipal airport. Heavy emphasis is placed on the ability to respond to and take appropriate action to issues as they arise and to maintain the operational functionality.

Job Description

Overview
The Airfield Maintenance Technician III performs technical work in the operations and duties associated with supervising and assigning safety, operations, maintenance, and security tasks, projects of the municipal airport.

Essential Functions
1 Provides on the job training and leadership to ensure quality of work and operational efficiency; attends and participates in various professional development opportunities and encourages training and other development for maintenance technicians.
2 Oversees, supports, and monitors maintenance functions, ensuring that technicians are on task utilizing proper tools, equipment and personal protective equipment used to perform all required tasks safely and efficiently.
3 Reports and communicates problems, status on assigned projects, daily log hours per tasks, materials used, and other pertinent information to supervisors.
4 Identifies issues, addresses concerns, and recommends action plans on issues resolution; implements solutions as needed.
5 Creates and maintains work records; drafts and submits airfield maintenance work orders, complaint resolutions, FAA inspection records, and other documentation.
6 Performs high-level coordination of Airfield Maintenance personnel and resources during winter operation events; makes priority determination and confirms completion, performs complex decision making activities and safety assurance processes.
7 Responds to and provides assistance as needed during aircraft emergencies, facility equipment failure, airfield lighting failures, building/structure emergencies, pavement failures, hazardous incidents and related emergency situations; collaborates and works closely with other emergency services and departments.
8 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1 Knowledge of City organization, operations, policies, and procedures.
2 Expert knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration, Transportation Security Administration, and Department of Transportation decisions and regulations affecting maintenance operations.
3 Expert knowledge of the safe operation of trucks, tools, and equipment according to airport operating and safety procedures.
4 Ability to perform and supervise a wide variety of skilled tasks in maintenance and repair of airport facilities and equipment.
5 Ability to operate a variety of complex power tools or power equipment used in construction or landscaping.
6 Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with a wide variety of people.
7 Knowledge of Applicable laws, standards and regulations relation to airport operations and safety precautions.
8 Ability to communicate via two-way radio with the Federal Aviation Association FAA and Air Traffic Controller.
9 Establishing and maintaining effective relationships.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience
Four (4) years of experience, of which three (3) years in working with heavy equipment or on an airfield, general construction, maintenance, or repair experience and one (1) year of airfield maintenance and/or airport operations experience.
Education
High School Diploma or GED

Licenses and Certifications
Movement Area Certification CDL - Group B – State of Texas Commercial Driver's License, must pass Transportation Security Administration background investigations. Drug/alcohol testing and physical may be required.

Salary Range

$21.68 - $26.35
