Community Maternity Services, an agency of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Albany, has opening for a full time Training and Development Specialist, working with employees across all programs of the agency. CMS provides both residential services in the Albany area, and community based programs in Albany and six counties of the Diocese of Albany. The position includes, but is not limited to the following:


  • Recruitment of potential employees, including screening all candidate’s resumes and applications for appropriateness in various programs
  • Conducting employment interviews with all potential candidates and evaluating qualifications for positions
  • Coordinating with Human Resources to ensure timely verification of employment references; completing all necessary documentation for all candidates and submission of fully completed packet for hiring and rate approval
  • Providing and conducting agency orientation / training for newly hired staff, including but not limited to: arranging for mandatory training sessions, reviewing policies and procedures, etc.
  • Working in conjunction with management staff to provide support and training to newly hired staff that will assist them in performing job responsibilities
  • Coordinating training sessions for all staff, both in person and web based and develop a training calendar
  • Maintaining a training database to document all training sessions
  • Attend various train the trainer sessions and implement staff trainings, including but not limited to: CPR/First Aid, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training, Trauma informed training, Motivational Interviewing, etc...
  • Conducting administrative review of all restraints including, but not limited to: documentation review, staff and client interviews, review of video footage


This is a full-time, in-person position and involves a flexible schedule which includes some evenings and weekends. Candidates must possess a valid NYS driver’s license and a car in working order and be able to walk up and down stairs and lift/carry up to 40lbs; must be able to perform physical interventions and complete/pass TCI train the trainer’s curriculum; sit and / or stand for extended periods of time and demonstrate a full range of motion. Some travel is required. Experience in child welfare, foster care, trauma informed care, and mental health needs are preferred. A Bachelor’s Degree in human service field is preferred, but an Associate’s degree with 5 to 7 years of experience will be considered. Preference will be given to candidates with training experience.
