POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Vice President of People and Culture at the YMCA of Honolulu plays an instrumental and key role in the strategic and operational role of overseeing the full spectrum of HR functions, with a primary focus on recruitment and retention strategies. As one of the largest employers in the state of Hawaii, the VP of People and Culture will provide strategic guidance, advice, and counsel to the senior leadership team and management personnel of the YMCA of Honolulu. Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible for efficiently managing HR committee meetings and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Recruitment and Retention:
  • Develop and implement innovative recruitment strategies to attract top talent across diverse roles within the organization.
  • Collaborate with department heads to identify staffing needs and forecast future hiring requirements.
  • Design and execute retention initiatives to foster a positive work environment and culture and enhance employee satisfaction and engagement.
  • Strategic HR Leadership:
  • Provide strategic HR guidance and support to the senior leadership team and management personnel across the association, aligning HR initiatives with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Develop and implement HR policies, procedures, and best practices to support a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Conduct regular assessments of HR programs and initiatives to ensure alignment with industry standards, best practices, and applicable law.
  • Senior oversight of compensation and benefits programs, ensuring competitiveness, compliance, and alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Conduct regular benchmarking and analysis of compensation and benefits packages to ensure competitiveness in the market.
  • Collaborate with finance and executive teams to develop and manage budgets related to compensation and benefits.
  • Lead the design and implementation of incentive and recognition programs to drive employee engagement and performance.
  • Provide oversight to the effective utilization of information management systems such as payroll, benefits management, training, and volunteering systems.
  • HR Committee Management:
  • Lead and facilitate HR committee meetings, providing updates on HR-related matters, including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and compliance.
  • Collaborate with committee members to address emerging HR challenges and develop actionable solutions.
  • Prepare and present reports on HR metrics, trends, and initiatives to senior leadership and the board of directors.
  • Compliance and Risk Management:
  • Ensure compliance with and provide guidance on federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including but not limited to EEO, ADA, FMLA, and FLSA.
  • Oversee and provide direct guidance for HR-related investigations and employee relations matters, ensuring fair and equitable resolution in accordance with organizational policies and legal requirements.
  • Mitigate HR-related risks by implementing effective policies, procedures, and training programs.
  • Act as the employee relations expert, overseeing grievances and disciplinary procedures to ensure fair and consistent application of policies and procedures.
  • Employee Learning and Development Training:
  • Collaborate with department managers to identify training and development needs and facilitate the delivery of relevant programs.
  • Implement succession planning initiatives to identify and develop future leaders within the organization.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development among employees at all levels.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • SHRM-SCP or SPHR certification is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of progressively responsible experience in human resources management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of HR best practices, employment laws, and regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders and influence decision-making at the executive level.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $115,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
