Job Description:
The Nebraska Public Employees Retirement Systems (NPERS) administers the retirement plans for State, County, School, Judges, and State Patrol public employees of Nebraska. The Training Specialist assists in providing the educational services NPERS provides to its members and employers across the state. This position will also be an education/subject matter expert for our newest OSERS plan.

Work schedule: M-F, 8-5 (when not traveling)

Salary: $21.101 hourly

Effective July 1, 2024, per the NAPE/AFSCME Labor Contract, the hourly rate of the Training Specialist classification will increase to $21.523.

Examples of work:

  • Develop, maintain, and conduct retirement and financial planning seminars for the seven retirement plans administered by the Nebraska Public Employees Retirement Systems.
  • Develop, maintain, and conduct Employer training workshops.
  • Effectively communicate accurate and detailed information.
  • Assist with scheduling seminars and working with instructors and site representatives.
  • Create written curriculum, review plan changes and legislation, which will impact seminar content.
  • Evaluate educational resources used in seminars.
  • Write newsletter articles and assist with publications.
  • This position requires substantial overnight in-state travel.
  • Provide back-up to NPERS' graphic design artist.

Requirements / Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Two years’ experience and/or training in planning and presenting information and/or education to others through formal training, workshops, seminars, or other instructional venues including experience developing training programs or curriculum. Associates degree in education, human resources, organization communication, training and development or related field may be substituted for experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Intermediate computer skills with word processing and spreadsheets, experience with Windows and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access). Additional experience with publishing, web design and video editing software (InDesign, Dreamweaver, and Premiere Elements).
Other: Valid Nebraska driver's license and good driving record required. This position requires substantial overnight in-state travel. Must be able to lift items weighing up to 50 lbs.

Knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Ability to speak in front of a large group.
  • Experience or knowledge of financial planning, Social Security benefits, and the retirement planning industry is a plus.
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to have regular attendance and punctuality.
