Hatch Stamping Company is looking for a highly driven individual to fill the position of Tool Room Supervisor. The Tool Room Supervisor will be responsible for managing the functions of the Tool Room department to aid and improve the operational performance of the facility.
The ideal candidate will have extensive manufacturing experience with significant proven management experience. Experience in lean manufacturing or business system-based company is a plus.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Responsible for the performance of the Tool Room department, ensuring that proper die methods and techniques are being followed
- Develop the tooling preventative maintenance program to drive die availability and reduce die-related downtime in the Press Shop
- Responsible for the creation and implementation of best practice Tool Room vision, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures to aid and improve operational performance
- Ability to identify areas of greatest opportunity, create and evaluate process improvement, prioritize and lead improvement activities for all plant operations
- Drive continuous improvement within the Tool Room, instill die repair best practices, and develop and implement engineered solutions to chronic die issues
- Develop and deploy current and future state waste reduction and flow improvement opportunities
- Implement improvements focused on product availability and cost reduction
- Responsible for the supervision of the Tool Room department including scheduling and delegating die repair and maintenance
- Ensure that perishable tooling inventory is maintained and order materials/tools when necessary
- Using lean management tools, such as Kaizens, identify areas of waste and opportunities for flow and equipment improvement
- Implement visual accountability tools to improve output
- Provide technical oversight to maintenance, operations, and tool-making departments, enhancing total preventative maintenance programs on existing machinery
- Audit and improve plant floor maintenance programs
- Independently perform root cause analysis to resolve problems
- Identify business improvement opportunities within the organization
- Document concepts, designs, and processes, and generate standard work
- Provide technical expertise in all areas relating to the functions of the Tool Room department
- Manage multiple projects, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines with a problem-solving mentality
- Assist with organization, development, analysis, implementation, and maintenance of programs and measures necessary for established engineering objectives
- Work with vendors and suppliers to determine product specifications, arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluate products according to specifications and quality standards to improve or implement manufacturing processes
- Develop, implement, and manage Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for each area of responsibility
- Ensure KPIs are met by working to the plan, including management of, and reporting risk assessments of processes and tasks in the Tool Room department
- Implement and manage continuous improvement and modern manufacturing principals by highlighting deficiencies and recommending changes in training, working practices, and processes
Qualifications include:
- Extensive manufacturing experience with significant proven management experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years' working experience in Tool and Die management or related field
- 5+ years of manufacturing experience preferred
- Aptitude with stamping presses and die background with related metallurgical experience in raw material and tool steels
- Ability to mentor direct reports
- Solid understanding of LEAN principles and concepts, including 5S, and problem-solving
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Proven project management skills in both small and large scale projects
- Advanced math and verbal skills
- Flexibility of shift scheduling, to include overtime and weekends when supervision is required
- Must possess a positive attitude, be a team player, and have strong work ethic
