Responsible for assisting the Operations Terminal Manager in providing strategic and operational leadership to the Transportation Division. In partnering with the Operations Manager, develop, and implement processes to ensure compliance with company policies/procedures, continuous process improvement, and drive employee initiatives to create and promote an environment where employees are involved and committed to the success of the Company.
Responsibilities
- Full operational responsibility for Transportation Division. Lead employees to maximize performance and safety
- Evaluate operational performance using data analytics and metrics, as well as 4 observation route rides per driver per year on average to enhance productivity and safe work methods
- Ensure all drivers are operating within the DOT regulations as well as hours of service guidelines
- Ensure driver logs are completed and meet DOT specifications
- Maintaining optimum service levels for customer base
- Maintain and improve power unit utilization including gallons per hour, and work towards truck utilization greater than 80% per unit
- Manage driver relationship including recruiting, performance/scorecard evaluations, communications and maintaining driver culture. Continual evaluate proper standards for driver performance measurement and recommend changes
- Maintain the safety and compliance culture with full responsibility for compliance with DOT, Federal, State and local regulations (e.g., E-Logs, pre-trip inspections)
- Develop driver and employee training programs and oversee driver certification procedures
- Oversee the repair and maintenance operation for all power units and trailers inclusive of state and federal inspections, vapor testing, tank testing working with compliance and dispatch to ensure minimal downtime
- Maintain fleet in a safe manner in accordance with company and governmental standards. Comply effectively with company work and safety rules.
- Check off on all new employees to ensure they are ready and capable to be on their own.
- In some instances train new employees from start to finish depending on staffing
- Fill in when necessary if shorthanded
Requirements
- Valid Class A Drivers License
- Current DOT Medical Card
- Current endorsements for Hazmat, Tanker, and TWIC Card where applicable
- General knowledge of state and federal DOT and motor carrier rules and requirements
