Position: Supplier Quality Engineer
Department: Operations, Hydro Flask
Work Location: Bend, OR, Hybrid (work 3 days onsite)
Hybrid Schedule: Helen of Troy associates enjoy the advantages and flexibility of a hybrid working model, allowing for in office 3 days minimum, and remote 2 days. Any changes to this working model would be communicated accordingly.
What you will be doing:
The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) is responsible for helping develop communication standard processes with suppliers and ensuring the supplier implements defect prevention systems, continue to meet quality standards and adhere to processes. The SQE is the primary point of contact for final product inspection reviews and non-APO supplier audits (QMS, SCARs, etc.)
  • Supervise supplier performance key performance indicators by way of pre-shipment inspections, SCAR completion, and 1Factory data. report on supplier product quality and associated business impact.
  • Lead the review and audits against supplier QMS (i.e. SCARs, Process FMEA’s, PPAPs, Inspection plans etc.) at suppliers.
  • Monitor field return rates for quality escapes, supplier PPM, supplier problem solving on time, cost recovery and supplier warranty indicators.
  • Maintain Quality Assurance Plans in Quality Standards Portal.
  • Proactively work on the identification and / or prevention of supplier quality issues.
  • Work on quality initiatives at suppliers, with product support and regulatory teams.
  • Support sourcing / supply chain with the supplier approval process by helping assess risks.
  • Participate in Operation Review meetings to provide insight from the finished product expectations and bring up concerns that have or may come up from suppliers and final inspections.
  • Collaborate with product development team to ensure quality of product during development
  • Document and review product specific quality documentation for inspection to use during production of product during Pre Shipment Inspections (PSI)
  • Ensure all Critical To Quality (CTQ) features are validated at Pre Shipment Inspection (PSI)
  • Handle the distribution of signed samples to inspection teams and supplier teams
  • Assess potential quality escapes to identify initial root cause and collaboratively work with partners (i.e. suppliers, APO SQEs, advanced quality engineer, or product engineers/managers) to align on next steps.
  • Work with Customer Service team to test warranty/product claims. Provide Investigation Reports for any product claim tested.
  • Work with supplier to ensure corrective actions are effective when there are quality escapes
  • Work with the product develop team to drive product quality improvements.
  • Collaborate with Quality team to review monthly field data and resolve areas for improvement at the supplier or with product team.
  • Review PPAP documentation for new suppliers outside of APO prior to shipping first product
  • Audit suppliers to the QMS standards
  • Help train suppliers on quality expectations for the product
  • Create and audit supplier to any non-compliances found during the onboarding process using SCAR system.
Skills needed to be successful in this role:
  • Proven record of problem solving and implementing corrective action

  • Quality management systems
  • Statistical quality analysis
  • Product quality standards and compliance
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Quality, Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 2+ Years of experience working with product quality management
  • Proven background in solving product/manufacturing defects and implementing corrective action
  • Experience presenting with a global vendor network
  • Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in metals, plastics and soft-goods manufacturing
