Position status and work arrangement: Exempt, Full-time in San Diego, CA, on-site daily for a two-
month training period. Afterward, on-site at least two days per week.

Compensation: $87,000 - $97,000 depending on relevant professional experience.

Target start date: May 2024

Position Summary:

We are a growing software engineering team supporting the Department of Defense (DoD). The Software QA Engineer will assist the team by tackling complex and important problems for our current government tasks. This position supports formal testing, validation, or verification events by capturing and maintaining redlines to documentation, incorporating redlines, and coordinating with the project team. The Software QA Engineer will also create and update technical documentation (e.g., operator manuals, maintenance manuals, plans, procedures, etc.) for the Department of Defense (DoD) systems. The ideal candidate possesses a true passion for software testing and a desire to learn about new technologies and processes.

A candidate with at least five years of recent, relevant professional work experience will thrive in this role:

  • Experience creating and updating technical documentation (e.g., operator manuals, maintenance manuals, plans, procedures, etc.).
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Experience with Agile methodologies for Software Development Life Cycle.
  • Experience creating detailed and well-structured test plans and cases from specifications or verbal communications.
  • Experience using XML editing and publishing tools to create structured documents.
  • Experience writing user/support/maintenance engineering documentation while working on an interdisciplinary team (engineers, technicians, logisticians, testers, etc.)

What you’ll do:

  • Review design specifications to understand the software product's scope, requirements, and function.
  • Develop, implement, and document test plans and cases.
  • Conduct testing to ensure products perform according to user requirements and within established guidelines.
  • Identify, log, and recreate errors, bugs, and defects.
  • Work closely with the software engineering team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
  • Must reside within reasonable commuting distance of San Diego, CA.
  • B.A. in Computer Science, Information Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, or similar.
  • Should have experience working within DoD, with domain understanding and knowledge.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and execution skills with an ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
  • Ability to show a strong knowledge of technical writing standards and adhere to a style guide.
  • Reliable and consistent internet access.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Must be available to work between 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. PST.
  • Must have consistent and reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Must provide work samples if requested.
