THIS ROLE:
As the Shipyard Electrician you will perform electrical maintenance, repair, and new installation work on CMC’s vessels and shoreside facilities. This position requires strong theoretical and practical knowledge of marine electrical systems. The Shipyard Electrician is required to manage their own workload as well as delegate tasks to labor crews as necessary. This position is not restricted to the Long Beach shipyard. A TWIC card and unrestricted travel in the US are necessary.
RESPONSIBILITES:
- Manage shipyard electrical safety.
- Lead and supervise labor crews working on electrical installations.
- Use hand and power tools to run and terminate cable and install equipment.
- Use test equipment to troubleshoot power and control systems.
- Assist with system design and project planning.
- Specify electrical equipment for new installations.
- Train electrical apprentices.
- Travel to project sites as needed.
- Provide quality control and oversight for electrical system installation.
WHO YOU ARE:
Required Skills
- Ability to use a multimeter, megohmmeter, process meter, and calibration equipment.
- Ability to use hand and power tools in a safe manner.
- Ability to install and troubleshoot motor controllers, motors, generators, transformers, control systems, low voltage DC systems, and ungrounded AC 3-phase systems up to 600V.
- Ability to specify cable and circuit breaker ampacities.
- Ability to order research and order parts and manage a budget.
- Knowledge of and ability to comply with USCG, ABS, IEEE45, and NEC standards.
- Ability to specify and install navigation equipment including radars, ECDIS, GPS, radios, GMDSS, depth sounders, and autopilots, as well as proficiency in NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 networking.
- Ability to communicate clearly in person, by phone, and email.
- Ability to anticipate future assignments and manage simultaneous projects.
- Ability to use CAD software to draw and edit schematics.

Physical Aptitudes
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
- Ability to use stairs on a regular basis.
- Ability to climb ladders and maneuver in tight spaces.
- Ability to acquire and maintain a TWIC and valid Driver’s License if required to drive for work.
