Job Summary

VC Tech's Research and Development (R&D) Engineering team operates with a broad scope, delving into cutting-edge technologies and exploring uncharted territories. Our innovation approach at Volvo follows a bottom-up model, granting individuals a significant degree of autonomy in their work. We are currently seeking an exceptional talent to join our automotive workshop in Sunnyvale, CA, supporting diverse ongoing partnerships and driving innovation projects.


This pivotal role is deemed essential, requiring on-site presence in Sunnyvale, CA, in accordance with local regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and support office’s fleet of production, verification, pre-production, and test cars, as well as fleet of offsite partner vehicles
    • Keep vehicles up to date with latest hardware, recalls
    • Install diagnostic/telemetry equipment
    • Work with test engineers to validate car functionality & diagnose issues
    • Travel may be needed for supporting partner vehicles, up to 2 times per year
  • Design & implement custom equipment installation
  • Support the workshop manager in various activities throughout the garage
  • Support the needs of innovation, engineering, and AD/ADAS teams
  • Fabricate rigs for securing test equipment

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor degree preferred, or automotive technical certification considered
  • 5-8 years of experience as automotive technician, including working with hybrids
  • Eight ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certifications and L1 & L3 (advanced level specialist & hybrid certifications)
  • Expert knowledge of diagnostic procedures, manufacturer specific special tools, and test equipment
  • Strong PC skills to perform daily work (i.e. Office products, computer hardware, additional software)
  • Strong communication skills to present technical information and persuade different audiences

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master technician designation
  • Some fabrication skills are a plus
  • Electric Vehicle (EV) certified is a plus
