The Security Sergeant acts as the "Front Line" supervisor and manages the performance and effectiveness of the security officers. The Sergeant will direct, assess and evaluate security officers. The Sergeant will respond to calls for service that are escalated and/or categorized as critical or major incidents and debrief with appropriate stakeholders. Reviews effectiveness of current assignments so as to provide maximum efficiency and utilization of resources. Responsible for the safety and security of all Jefferson employees, students, visitors, staff and property and mitigates workplace violence in accordance with the Joint Commission, Department of Health and other regulatory and statutory requirements. Must be available to work all shifts and must be able to rotate between shifts in accordance with organizational needs. The Sergeant will respond to all serious incidents on campus and take the appropriate action in conjunction with the Jefferson Police Department, and/or local law enforcement in accordance with Federal, State, Local and Organizational laws and policy.

Patrols Jefferson Buildings and campus to ensure a safe and violence free enviornment. Makes unscheduled checks of campus sensitive and high risk areas. Periodically checks specific campus locations for security violations, unauthorized persons and dangerous conditions. Reports any security concerns from respected shift in writing to the Lieutenant.
Monitors Security Officers while on-shift, ensuring Security Officers are on-post and meeting post expectations and requirements. Acts as the “Front Line" supervisor in charge and acts upon and reports problematic situations to the shift Lieutenant. Has the prinicipal responsibility to provide a formal method of communicating conduct problems to management consistent with established policy and performance standards.
Reviews security incident reports for completeness, accuracy and consistency with general reporting standards; works with Officers to meet these reporting standards when needed. Ensures Officers prepare a security incident report for all security complaints/incidents and written record is submitted before end of shift or when directed.
Assigned to security details, VIP protection and crowd control for special events, and on-campus escorts. Interacts with the Jefferson Police Department and law enforcement authorities having jurisdiction for special events.
Partners with Jefferson Police Department, local police, District Attorney office, or other law enforcement agencies relative to criminal offenses and complaints, and when subpoenaed testifies in court litigation proceedings.
Consults and advises crime victims focusing on "due process" or methods of reporting crimes to the appropriate authorities (Jefferson Police Department, local police, District Attorney, etc.)
Provides assistance as a member of the Emergency Response Team in events such as: fires, bomb threats, explosions, or other life threatening or crime related situations.
High School diploma or GED equivalent required. Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice or related field preferred. Knowledge of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), Fire Alarm systems and Access Control (preferred)

Experience:
Valid Driver’s license required to work at certain Jefferson locations. Act 235 certification required in PA. Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a security/police officer, preferably in the Healthcare environment and/or Associates degree or higher with a Criminal Justice or related concentration, or two years of law enforcement or military service.
