GenMet Corp. (www.genmet.com) is a value-added contract metal fabricator in Mequon, WI with a strong commitment to team member growth, customer satisfaction and community engagement. We are searching for a Quality Inspector who will be responsible for assuring that all metal fabricated parts manufactured by GenMet Corp meet our customer specifications. The Quality Inspector works closely with Engineering, Operations, Purchasing and supplier partners to support our customers. He/she models and supports our company culture and values, ensures quality functions in a safe manner to deliver quality products accurately and efficiently. He/she passionately supports manufacturing “COOL” products, team member development and STEM education within GenMet and our community.
Duties and responsibilities
- Lead, model and promote a culture of honesty, integrity, teamwork, responsibility, adaptability and continuous learning and improvement with the highest ethics
- Ability to read and analyze blueprints, customer specifications and other documents
- Approves parts by confirming Customer specifications and conducting visual and measurement tests for: incoming materials, in-process parts (First Article, First Piece, In-process Interval Checks) and finished products (prior to and after Subcontract activities)
- Determine and document disposition of non-conforming product: rework, request customer deviation, or scrap. Record information into quality database. Confirm all non-conforming materials are fully dispositioned timely.
- Use a variety of inspection and measuring equipment such as CMM and Romer Arm to inspect complex part geometry and provide documentation for inspection reports.
- Document inspection results by completing reports and logs (First Article, PPAP, and Inspection Reports)
- Ensure measurement equipment is calibrated on schedule and preventative maintenance is performed as planned.
- Act as a certified Internal ISO Auditor and lead quality assessments and/or non-conformance reviews.
- Provide input and recommendations for part or project specific Quality Assurance plans.
- Correct minor blemishes on non-conforming items when this is acceptable to the customer.
- Support compliance with ISO9001, ITAR, OSHA, DNR, other applicable standards and Non-Disclosure Agreements
- Perform other duties as needed.
Qualifications
- High School Graduate or equivalent, Two year Technical Associates Degree preferred
- 3-5 years of Quality Assurance experience, minimum 1 year performing First Article and PPAP Inspections.
- Manufacturing experience required and metal fabrication and supplier relationship experience preferred
- Extensive blueprint reading and interpretation knowledge and experience (including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Proficient use of handheld measuring tools with basic knowledge of optical comparators
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions using Six Sigma and Root Cause analysis tools.
- Well organized, strong analytical skills, attention to detail and self-directed to complete tasks in a timely manner
- Effectively communicates internally and externally to gather information, develop alternatives and pursue actions
- Proficient in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (JobBOSS preferred) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to safely and successfully perform the job functions
- Must be able to travel locally 5-10% of the time
- Must be able to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 Lbs.
- Drive moderate distance by car/van to assist with Supplier and Subcontractor quality assurance.
