OVERVIEW
The St. Charles plant is one of two recently acquired TNT pizza crust locations. It is located in a newer facility in the St. Louis suburbs of St. Charles County. We operate in a dynamic business environment with lots of current investment and growth. The St. Charles plant has become a strategic and critical plant to the North American Food segment.
The Quality Engineer reports directly to the Plant FSQ Manager and will work closely with the plant cross-functional team to provide quality, food safety, regulatory, and sanitation leadership. This position works closely with GMI Research and Development along with National account customers and plays a key role in broader North American Food segment team priorities. Quality engineers must lead, motivate, and train employees to drive losses out of our systems to achieve production results while ensuring compliance with quality, food safety, and regulatory requirements.
Additionally, the Quality Engineer will help to facilitate policy updates and training as we continue to navigate through the ITQ TNT/General Mills integration.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Provide FSQ leadership and direction through technical mastery in the areas of regulatory compliance, sanitation, materials/packaging, defect handling, and FSRA
- Provide leadership in the identification and implementation of product and process quality improvement opportunities and resultant productivity gains
- Provide risk assessment analysis and manage issues with non-conforming product to ensure proper control, minimize losses, and provide analysis to eliminate future occurrences
- Provide leadership for sanitation excellence
- Ensure the department meets all GMP/Regulatory, Sanitation, and Product Safety guidelines
- Provide technical expertise to drive root cause to problem areas
- Help lead the HACCP Team and overall ownership of the HACCP program for the site
- Accompany third-party auditors/inspectors when requested (BRC, OSHA, customers) during plant audits or inspections, providing information on sanitation practices and policies
- Improve sanitation process by reducing needed resources (i.e. water, wastewater, chemicals, labor) whenever possible
- Trouble-shoot issues related periodic equipment maintenance (PEM)/spoilage and process cleaning issues
- Stop unsanitary activities or behaviors during the shift and communicate/document issues per company safety policies
- Assist with plant’s pest control program
- Ensure daily Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP) and Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS) are being strictly followed
- Ensure security of all sanitation chemicals located on premises by limiting access and monitoring/preventing leaks, spills, etc.
- Improve cleaning/sanitizing processes to reduce damage to equipment and environment surfaces
- Support all safety, food quality and sanitation initiatives and policies
- Assist production with manually cleaning equipment; may include rinsing, foaming, scrubbing, and sanitizing production equipment if needed
- Management of activities which ensure food safety, authenticity, legality, and quality
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Chemistry - Biology, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Food Science
- 1 year+ of experience in a food manufacturing, food quality, food safety or other related experiences
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to manage through influence and work effectively with a variety of people, teams, and departments

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years experience preferred
