As a quality engineer associate, you will…

  • Will be the primary point of contact with engineering on equipment installation or other plant upgrades to ensure Quality, cost and schedules are met for the project.
  • Leads and contributes to CAPA programs to resolve quality problems and process improvements by collecting, analyzing data, and providing process improvement solutions or recommendations. Must be able to drive to root cause and enable manufacturing to sustain improvements.
  • Evaluation of process Capability and development of improvement plans to reduce failure, defect rates and variability. Develop quality controls, measures, and metrics to track operational performance.
  • Conduct Data analysis, sampling plans and develop quality management tools to address operational issues and failures. Develop finished product specifications and AQL's.
  • Documentation of procedures, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), tests and trials, process controls, and lessons learned in support of quality and food safety programs.
  • Conduct evaluations against process and product specifications and AQL's. Communicates key findings and results to quality network.
  • Provides statistical validation audits of process to verify that quality concepts are applied in all phases of the manufacturing process.
  • Train and educate plant partners and quality specialists on quality initiatives and topics as needed.
  • Provide technical support for in-plant quality process improvement projects; new processes, and new and or modified equipment installations throughout warehousing, roasting, and packaging to achieve both quality and efficiency. Uses experience and technical data to plan, control, and assure product and process quality in accordance with Starbucks quality regulations. This includes material control, acceptance sampling, and measurement systems.
  • Assist in accumulation of Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) on quality processes; present data for analysis; report project status and deliverables.
  • Leads and contributes to the resolution of quality challenges and process improvements by acquiring and analyzing data using appropriate standard quantitative methods across a spectrum of business environments to facilitate process analysis and improvements.
  • Assist with evaluation of Standard Operating Procedures and specifications, communicating updates and changes.
  • Work in conjunction with QA Techs (and in their absence) to conduct routine quality assurance checks, calibrates lab equipment and assists in research and testing methods. Review calibration processes for diagnostic equipment to ensure tools are within quality standard specifications.
  • Support HACCP training and changes required for implementation and compliance.
  • Develop SOPs to support quality and food safety programs.
  • Support all aspects of operations as needed.
  • Ensure workplace safety and addresses safety issues promptly and completely.
  • Creates and sustains a cohesive, positive, and clean work environment.
  • Supports all plant goals and objectives. Apprises manager of team progress and any obstacles.
  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.

We’d love to hear from people with:

  • BS degree in related science/quality/engineering field
  • Experience in quality or food/consumer product manufacturing (3 Years)
  • Project management (3 Years)
  • ASQ (American Society of Quality) certification.
  • Lean/Six Sigma experience
  • Ability to communicate complex statistical techniques and or solutions to a wide range of organization levels, shop floor partners and plant director.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of multidisciplinary business principles and practices to achieve successful outcomes in cross-functional projects and activities.
  • Ability to develop and implement quality programs, including tracking, analyzing, reporting and problem solving.

  • Builds multi-function alignment with quality assurance, engineering, operations and other relevant business units or departments by engaging and directing resolutions of complex project and tactical quality initiatives.
  • Leads and contributes to the resolution of quality challenges and process improvements by acquiring and analyzing data using appropriate standard quantitative methods across a spectrum of business environments to facilitate process analysis and improvements.
  • Initiates technical strategies to meet changing business needs. Balances trade-offs and conflicting priorities to gain cross-functional concurrence.
  • Develops top-level process enhancement and experimental designs for the technical functions. Generates technical solutions in a cost-effective manner. Obtains appropriate level of information and analyzes complex problems to produce tactical and strategic decisions to improve quality.
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills required. Ability to teach basic statistical processes to all partners.
  • Proficient in Minitab 13+ or related statistical software
  • Highly detailed/organized and extremely proficient with all equipment and daily operations.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
