SUMMARY

Northline Seafoods is a growing seafood processing company looking for an experienced and motivated Quality Assurance Manager to direct and coordinate all day-to-day activities of QA/Compliance in food processing operations on our freezer barge in Bristol Bay, Alaska for the 60-70 day salmon season. The role may be expanded to include an off-season function in the final processing of Bristol Bay salmon in Bellingham, WA. As we grow, we're looking for an all-hands-on-deck perspective.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Oversee all food safety and quality policies, plans, and direction of the QA Department.
  • Responsible for the training or makes available the training for the QA technicians to complete their job descriptions; give assignments to the QA technicians and monitor progress.
  • Active member of both the BRCGS and the HACCP teams.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in all phases of food safety and quality.
  • Responsible for water quality program, including monthly sampling and reporting.
  • Manage the HACCP plans and serve as the primary contact with regulatory officials.
  • Attend all audits and answer all non-compliances.
  • Generate appeals and notify the proper chain of command during the appeal process.
  • Maintain direct communication with vendors to ensure adequate supplies of all QA related items including chemicals, labels, testing equipment, and labs.
  • Ensure the QA staff operates in an efficient and safe manner with an emphasis on a zero-accident mentality.
  • Manage and execute all safety training and documentation as required by local, state and federal regulations with emphasis on Coast Guard requirements.
  • Complete all other duties as assigned.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of 1-2 years experience in a regulated food industry, seafood and/or processing experience.
  • HACCP certified or the ability to acquire certification quickly in the event that this position is expanded to a year-round role in our Bellingham, Washington facility.
  • Ability to maintain paperwork in an organized manner.
  • Previous experience working with regulatory agencies is a huge plus for this role.
  • Basic computer skills are necessary to develop and maintain QA documents.
  • Must be proficient and communicate well verbally and in written English.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus for this role.
  • Basic knowledge of food regulations including best practices and GMPs.
  • Ability to solve problems and make clear rational decisions in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to train and support a small staff of QA technicians.
  • Ability to complete duties with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to routinely work 12+ hour shifts while occasionally working 16+ during peak season.
  • Positive, all-hands-on-deck attitude.

This job operates primarily on a barge at sea in Bristol Bay, AK with the potential for year-round work when reprocessing in Bellingham, WA. This role routinely monitors quality parameters during fish processing and works closely with Northline's compliance officer to develop and maintain proper documentation to achieve BRC standards. Employee must be able stand, walk and generally navigate a wet and cold barge environment for long periods of time. Ability to lift 50 pounds independently and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
