The Purchasing Supervisor leads the purchasing team to improve buying processes and programs. You will continually explore opportunities for new products, new vendors, new technology, better value, and any other opportunities that may present a competitive advantage for CMC. You will assist in organizing, training, and developing the purchasing department in accordance with company policies, procedures, and mission statement – “To be the most convenient place for our customers to do business”. Will work alongside purchasing manager to give buyers guidance, set expectations and coaching performance.

Duties and Responsibilities

Vendor/Purchasing Management

  • Establish and maintain purchasing programs designed to ensure CMC gets the best possible program for customers: pricing, rebates, terms, discounts, freight rates, marketing support, return policies, etc.
  • Conduct regular assessments of the purchasing program's efficiency and effectiveness, identifying opportunities for improvement. Promptly reporting findings and working with the purchasing manager to further evaluate and take necessary actions.
  • Vendor Scorecard Tracking – Create and maintain a Vendor Scorecard by collecting and organizing data to drive vendor performance with continuous effort to reduce costs and lead time.
  • Partners with Pricing Specialist to evaluate purchasing opportunities ahead of price increases and before discounts expire.
  • Utilizes technical tools to analyze data and increase responsiveness to product demand needs.
  • Support’s buyers in providing product information to marketing and Ecommerce.

Inventory/Product Management

  • Inventory - Maintain healthy inventory levels through effective purchasing and purging of current products.
  • Review and Manage Product Inventory Reports – Lead buyers to keep inventory fresh by executing report follow-up: Excess Inventory: 9+ Months, Out of Stock Products, Purchase Order Expediting, Special Order products in stock, Open Customer Order/Backorder Products, Support inventory control with retuned goods processing.

Team Support - leadership and coaching

  • Team Development - Recognize individual and team accomplishments through positive feedback.
  • Team Selection - Participates in the interview and selection process for open positions.
  • Presentation Review – Assist buyers with presentations to sales team, new products and old products committees to ensure accurate and concise information.
  • Works alongside team as a customer service agent as needed, providing and role-modeling exemplary service to our customers.

Training

  • Vendor Training – Works with the CSAM to schedule vendor training with key vendors that align with current company goals or marketing programs and around important product launches.

Other duties as assigned by the CS/Purchasing Manager.

Qualifications Include:

  • 5+ years as a lead buyer/purchaser.
  • 3+ years in purchasing department supervision.
  • Business or related college degree and/or purchasing training/certification highly preferred.
  • Customer focused with an aptitude for working through sensitive and complex customer and vendor issues.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships. Interact professionally and effectively with all levels of management, colleagues, vendors, and customers.
  • Superb organizational skills with proficiency in meeting deadlines while prioritizing multiple projects simultaneously; stay calm and professional under stress.
  • Experience with complex negotiations, problem solving, and financial analysis are essential.
  • Detail Oriented: highly accurate and reliable.
  • Excellent skills using Microsoft Office, including intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
  • Ability to think creatively to develop new reports, analysis, processes, and programs.
  • Experience with using ERP and WMS software preferred.
  • Typing skills (55 wpm or above preferred)

Compensation

From $70,000 annual salary

Competitive starting pay dependent upon candidate's unique set of skills and experience.

Working conditions

Office work environment. Company headquarters also includes a warehouse setting. Hybrid work schedule (home/office) available once employee reaches full proficiency.

Physical requirements

Able to do the essential functions of office position. This includes bending, stooping, kneeling and repetitive functions related to standard office - desk role.

Hours

Must be available between the hours of 7:00AM – 6:00PM. Regular schedules are between 7:30AM and 5:30PM, with weekly meetings scheduled before the work day. Position expected to require 45 hours per week.

Direct reports

Will supervise Buyers/Purchasing Agents in conjunction with Purchasing Manager.
