Tool-Smith is hiring a full-time Buyer in our Birmingham headquarters. Since 1979, Tool-Smith, Inc. has been serving industrial and manufacturing businesses through the distribution of supplies and services. With locations in Birmingham, Nashville & Mobile we serve our customers in the states of Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, Tennessee, Louisiana, and the panhandle of Florida. Our mission is to be the leading supplier of assembly tooling, hydraulic products, lifts, and engineered solutions utilizing quality suppliers, integrity in all we do, innovative approaches, and timely communication to the customers & industries we serve.

Summary: The Buyer procures parts, equipment, and materials by developing sources of supply and monitoring supplier performance; obtaining required parts, equipment and materials, verifying receipt of item, authorizing payment, and managing and controlling inventory.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create purchase orders
  • Expedite purchases from vendors
  • Communicate with vendors, customers and Tool-Smith sales regarding shipping delivery dates
  • Manage and expedite vendor claims and credits
  • Troubleshoot purchasing issues such as missing items and incorrect deliveries
  • Occasional sales order and quote entry
  • Occasional shipping and receiving tasks
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with suppliers
  • Continuously monitoring market demand and supply
  • Estimate future buying needs

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university Preferred
  • A mechanical background is preferred
  • Minimum 3years of related procurement experience including purchasing, inventory control, contract negotiation, supply management, supplier relationships, and tracking budget expenses
  • Outstanding attention to detail
  • Knowledge about supply chain and inventory management
  • Mechanical tool repair experience a plus
  • Proficient with MS Office suite
  • Needs good decision-making skills to determine how items should be ordered to take advantage of vendor policies regarding freight charges, minimum order requirements, etc.
