Job Description: Production Manager

The essential functions of the Production Manager are to provide leadership and direction to supervisors and hourly personnel in the manufacturing and processing of Tejas Premium Meats. The Production Manager will need experience in beef kill floor and fabrication. This position will carry out the production requirements of the departments according to HACCP and USDA requirements. This position will be responsible for maintaining proper standards of quality, safety, and employee relations. This position will report to the Plant Manager. This position has the possibility to move up to Plant Manager. The Plant Manager position includes customer relations and sales experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES including, but not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for scheduling all cattle deliveries for processing, scheduling kill processing and all fab processing. This requires continual adjustments to run operations efficiently and meet customer demand.
  • Handles all grade scheduling with USDA and in-house grading with Wagyu
  • Oversees efficiency of monitoring production, scanning make sheet, and discussing daily goals with Supervisors.
  • Reports to Fabrication Office for order sheet (make sheet), attends supervisor meetings, and reports work schedule to supervisors daily.
  • Directs supervisors with respect to production volume, quality, cost and meeting production schedules and delivery dates.
  • Control labor costs in reqards to staffing and overtime
  • Handles any employee grievance, dispute or problem in most efficient manner possible. Any unsolved matter taken up with Management.
  • Maintains good employee relations
  • Contact with line personnel, in addition to plant management.
  • Actively participates in group meetings, line meetings, and supervisory meetings.
  • Delegates safety training to supervisors to make sure regulations are followed
  • Work with the Quality control department to ensure product quality & food safety.
  • Trains and develops supervisors to provide management depth and develop teamwork to attain department objectives.
  • Monitors and confirms the machinery, equipment and facilities are properly maintained and sanitized to minimize downtime.
  • Makes critical decisions on machine maintenance, approvals for parts etc.
  • Establish and monitor a Preventive Maintenance program for all equipment
  • Oversees all aspects of shipping and receiving. This includes making sure trucks are on- time for pickup and shipments are correct.
  • Handle issues and problems with shipping including all correspondence with carriers and customers.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Preferred Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Meat Science or related field and or equivalent experience and training specific to field.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, speak and write in English and understand and speak conversational Spanish is required. Must be able to interpret and understand general business reports, professional journals, technical procedures or Government regulations. Must be able to write clear, accurate and concise reports and business correspondence. Must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from Supervisors, regulators, consultants, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply mathematical formulas to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must be able to make decisions on routine matters of policies. Ability to define and solve practical problems, collects data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to deal with several abstract and concrete variables in handling situations.

DECISION MAKING RESPONSIBILITIES: Have the authority to remove employees from an eminent danger condition. Have informal contact daily with Management, the other department supervisors and line leads. Changes involving programs, policies, and procedures require higher approval.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Lift 75 lbs occasionally. Must be able to efficiently and effectively move to all areas of production. Must be able to climb ladders or platforms. Must be able to wear all safety and production related equipment. Working in cold temperature, frequent exposure to knives, hot water and production machinery.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work environment varies from an office setting, production floor and outside climate conditions, based on the situation. Noise level may vary within areas of the plant. Must be able to tolerate cold (45 degrees or colder) and wet conditions.

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: The hours and days of work are established as needed by operations and at the discretion of management and may be adjusted (increased or decreased) by management as required. Must be able to work a flexible schedule as necessary.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $100,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
