The role of a Production Database Administrator revolves around ensuring the availability, safeguarding against data loss and corruption, and facilitating easy access to data when required. This position involves carrying out production support tasks for both data warehouse and transactional servers.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that new database code adheres to company standards for readability, reliability, and performance.
  • Implement robust backup strategies for all database servers to meet business Recovery Point Objectives (RPO).
  • Conduct regular testing of backups to ensure compliance with business Recovery Time Objectives (RTO).
  • Proactively diagnose and resolve SQL Server service outages, including those occurring during non-business hours.
  • Configure SQL Server monitoring utilities to minimize false alarms and ensure efficient system operation.
  • Evaluate and decide on appropriate technologies such as clustering, log shipping, mirroring, or Windows Azure when new systems are brought in-house.
  • Perform installations and configurations of new SQL Servers as required.
  • Deploy and manage database change scripts provided by third-party vendors.
  • Address performance issues by identifying and implementing solutions, which may involve hardware upgrades, server configuration adjustments, or optimizing queries and indexes.
  • Offer guidance to developers regarding efficient database designs, including tables, datatypes, stored procedures, and functions.
  • Thoroughly document the company's database environment for reference and auditing purposes.
  • Optimize SQL stored procedures to enhance overall system performance.
  • Maintain a regular presence at the home office, adhering to a 5-day workweek (Monday to Friday) with 8-hour workdays, subject to prior approval from your direct Manager.
  • Collaborate with the DevOps team to ensure seamless integration of database-related tasks into the overall development and deployment process.
  • Assist with other assigned duties as required to support the smooth functioning of the organization.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience preferred.

Physical & Environmental Requirements:

  • Fast-paced, professional office environment.
  • Proficient use of office equipment: computers, copiers, fax machines and telephones.
  • Ability to communicate effectively via spoken, written and electronic means.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
