Job Description

As Procurement Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the procurement process for Smiths Detection Americas. You will play a critical role in developing and executing procurement strategies to optimize cost savings, quality, customer service, and supplier relationships, while ensuring excellence in supplier management and the procure-to-pay (P2P) process.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of buyers, providing guidance and support in managing supplier relationships, executing procurement strategies, and optimizing the procure-to-pay process.
  • Operational Excellence: Ensure excellence in purchasing execution and operational processes, including order placement, tracking, and fulfillment, to meet business objectives efficiently and effectively.
  • Supplier Management and Procure-to-Pay Process: Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, monitoring and managing their performance to ensure adherence to agreed-upon service levels and quality standards. Oversee the end-to-end procure-to-pay process, including requisition, sourcing, purchasing, and payment, ensuring efficiency and compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Supplier Performance Evaluation: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and conduct regular performance evaluations of suppliers to identify areas for improvement and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Risk Management: Assess and mitigate procurement risks, implementing strategies to minimize supply chain disruptions and ensure continuity of operations.
  • Cost Optimization: Implement cost-saving initiatives and process improvements to drive efficiency and reduce procurement expenses while maintaining quality standards.
  • Market Analysis: Monitor market trends and industry developments to identify opportunities for cost savings, innovation, and supplier diversification.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, including operations, finance, technology, commercial and legal departments, to align procurement strategies with business objectives.
  • Performance Measurement: Develop and implement KPIs to measure procurement performance, supplier performance, and the effectiveness of the procure-to-pay process.

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field is essential

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field is essential. MBA or relevant professional certification (e.g., CSCP, CPSM) is desirable.


  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in procurement, preferably in a high-value, low-volume and large number of SKU’s business environment is essential.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience successfully managing supplier relationships and optimizing the procure-to-pay process is essential.
  • Previous leadership experience with the ability to inspire and motivate others is essential.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions and drive continuous improvement is essential.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and influence stakeholders and supplier partners at all levels is essential.
  • Proven negotiations skills that have resulted in substantial TCO reduction without compromise to quality and delivery is essential.


Ability to lead continuous improvement initiatives to develop and support the purchasing activities of the Supply Chain Management team and the wider business environment is essential.

Familiarity with US Government rules and regulations including FAR, DFAR and other agency supplements is desirable.

Proficiency in SAP and Microsoft Office Suite is essential. Proficiency in procurement software and tools is desirable.


Team currently comprised of 6 direct reports in US.
