Cadiz Police Officer

Job Characteristics:

Positions in this class are occupied by sworn police officers who are responsible for protecting persons and property, maintaining order, enforcing laws and regulations. Incumbents will be armed and may be assigned to work in uniform or plain clothes. Shift schedules may be changed periodically, and job assignments may be rotated among patrol, traffic control, criminal and juvenile investigations. The duties require initiative, resourcefulness, and the ability to analyze situations and in emergencies to adopt a quick, effective, and responsible course of action. The work involves frequent contact with the public and requires the ability to deal with persons in tense situations where relations may be strained.

Examples of Duties:

· Patrols the city by car, bicycle, or on foot to observe, investigate, and report suspicious and hazardous conditions; and apprehends and arrests law violators.

· Responds to routine and emergency calls for protection of persons and property, and for the enforcement of the City ordinances and State laws.

· Investigates crimes, accidents, deaths, and disturbances and gathers evidence; interviews, questions, and takes statements from complainants, suspects, and witnesses; and completes case reports.

· Takes charge of juveniles and delinquents and works on cases involving unfit homes and crimes committed against or by juveniles; handles missing persons cases and works with community organizations and governmental agencies in delinquencies and delinquency control programs.

· Directs traffic, including regulations of vehicle flow at times of emergency or congestion; stops drivers who are operating vehicles in violation of laws; and issues citations.

· Appears in court to present evidence and testimony in connection with criminal prosecution.

· Searches, guards, transports, and assists in the booking and custodial care of prisoners.

· Serves warrants, subpoenas, and other legal documents.

· Provides information and direction to the public and assists in developing community crime prevention programs, and may speak before business, school, civic and social groups.

Qualifications:
Training and Experience:

Graduation from an accredited high school or its equivalent (GED)

Ability to complete required law enforcement training, OR hold Kentucky Peace Officer Professional Standards Certification

US Army Military Police with at least 6 years of service

Special Requirements:

· Must be a United States Citizen.

· Must be at least 21 years of age by application closing date.

· Possession of a valid driver’s license.

· Must not be convicted of a felony.

· If applicable, must have honorable discharge from military service.

· Ability to pass a physical examination and a physical agility test.

· Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening test.

· Must pass background investigation.

Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

· Possess skills in officer survival.

· Ability to exhibit pride and integrity, command respect, and project a positive personal impact.

· Knowledge of criminal law, particularly laws of arrest, search and seizure, protection of Constitutional rights of citizens, and admissibility of evidence.

· Ability to act quickly and calmly in emergency situations.

· Ability to be professional and discrete.

· Skilled in arrest control techniques.

· Ability to listen well.

· Ability to be objective and fair.

· Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, and the public.

· Skilled in vehicle operation, including operations under emergency response and driving conditions.

· Ability to understand and carry out oral or written instructions and prepare clear and comprehensive written reports.

· Knowledge of human behavior.

· Knowledge of rules and regulations of the Police Department and governing federal, state, and local statues and ordinances.

· Skilled in the use and care of firearms.

· Good physical condition and ability to maintain satisfactory fitness level

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $41,600.00 - $60,320.00 per year
