Job Summary: The position of Plant Manager oversees the duties required to produce signage according to customer specifications and executes the required documentation to deliver materials as promised. The position also interfaces with other department and Company principles, coordinates the activities of the production team as well as the administrative duties for production. This position will participate in the creation of strategy for projects, translate the strategy into a development plan, and subsequently oversee implementation.

Essential Functions:
1. Management.
  • Provide leadership through effective communication of Company vision, active coaching and development.
  • Implement and enforce policies.
  • Maintain effective business relationships with other departments.
  • Select, develop and support a production team to meet or exceed expectations for quality of work and established timelines.
  • Identify and solve challenges in the plant.
  • Facilitate effective communication between production and all departments within the company.
  • Increase safety awareness and risk management in the plant.
  • Monitor and identify ways to increase overall throughput.
  • Monitor and find ways to increase overall profit margins.
  • Assist interview, selection, hiring, managing and terminating employees.
  • Conduct performance reviews for direct reports and manage performance review process for production department.
  • Make recommendations on compensation changes.
  • Address inadequate performance or inappropriate behavior, and prepare a performance improvement plan, facilitate terminations as needed.
  • Present monthly reports and other performance data to measure productivity and goal achievement
  • Review opportunities to reduce costs and improve processes on a regular basis.
  • Maintain strong production and administrative efficiency by training, coaching and disciplining employees.
  • Introduce and interpret new Company policies.
  • Identify, minimize risks and provide instruction on conflict resolution within the plant, customers and vendors.
  • Hold Leads accountable for training their teams on continuous improvement, communication, executing project plans on time, on scope and on or under budget.
  • Administrative.
    • Purchase raw goods for production.
    • Oversee or prepare documentation required to facilitate production, billing and customer service.
    • Review opportunities to reduce costs and improve processes on a regular basis.
  • Production.
    • Receive manufacturing purchase orders and ensure all relevant information is included before forwarding to foremen.
    • Oversee and improve efficiency of production to decrease waste and increase production capabilities.
    • Conduct weekly production meetings to keep team focused, organized, informed, and to ensure quality control and timely deliveries.
    • Work closely with quality control department to ensure highest level of products are delivered.
    • With closely with shipping department to stay on schedule as promised to customer
    • Work with sales, art, estimating and project management on all new accounts to understand expectations and deliverables.
    • Work with safety coordinator to maintain safety awareness and improve safety record.
    • Track all production margins and review for opportunities to improve efficiency.
    • Identify and select qualified subcontractors.
    • Prepare and regularly update plans for fulfilling orders by established deadlines through scheduling employees, monitoring quantity and quality of products while maintaining company production standards.
    • Locate and order custom-made products needed for production process.
    • Communicate with project managers to resolve all issues related to production.
    • Works with all vendors on pricing
    • Track both raw goods and finished goods as part of inventory control function.
    • Work with operations to implement new processes.
    • Prepare documentation and paperwork required to facilitate production, billing and customer service.
    • Adhere to a budget when purchasing materials and scheduling workers to meet deadlines.
    • Help find and maintain parts for all shop equipment.
    • Continuously evaluate and improve production process.
    • Serve as backup as needed when there are gaps in coverage.
  • Functions.
    • Remove jobs from open order file.
    • Verify status of stock orders
    • End stock items as completed.
    • Close stock orders as needed.
    • Issue stock orders as needed.
    • Print/release/copy/stamp and assemble shop packs.
    • Give order out items to purchasing agent.
    • File orders daily by customer and S/O number.
    • Oversee/manage material issuing in the system.
    • Oversee/manage job completion and closing in the system.
    • Check completed sketch for accuracy, errors, etc
    • Release jobs to shop floor/installation crew once all documentation and production sketches are received, completed and approved.
    • Review and verify finished goods.
    • Review and verify stock inventory levels.
  • Follow the rules and regulations related to the safety of all employees working for the Company.
    • Adherence to all mandated safety procedures including driving policy, production area safety requirements and fire safety.
    • Safety requires all employees to review materials provided by the Company related to any updates on safety procedures.
    • Informs management of any safety related issues
  • Ensures safety of self and others through proper use and care of equipment/work area
    • Handles and operates all equipment in a careful and safe manner.
    • Maintains tools and equipment in good working order and stores them properly.
    • Keeps all work areas neat and clear of potential hazards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in a professional office and manufacturing environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. The use of hearing protection and safety eyewear is required. The use of additional specific safety equipment may be required.

Physical Demands:

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time, 40 hour a week position with overtime as required.

Travel:
This position requires up to 30% travel.

Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, information technology, engineering or equivalent experience

Preferred Educational Requirements:
  • Master’s in business, information technology, engineering or equivalent experience.

Knowledge Requirements:
  • Five years’ experience in production management, preferably in the sign industry
  • Ability to identify and implement required actions quickly in order to accomplish goals, eliminate roadblocks and create focus
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment and make good decisions based on the best interests of the company
  • Thorough understanding of margins and gross profits
  • Experience with Exact Macola/Synergy preferred
  • Experience with Crystal Reports or Microsoft SSRS preferred but not required
  • Experience with Microsoft Office 365 applications such as Skype, Teams, One Drive and SharePoint is strongly preferred but not required
  • Proficient with common PC based software (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
  • OSHA certifications
  • Lean Six Sigma Experience
  • Proven safety record
