Under the direction of the Wellness Coordinator, the Personal Trainer is responsible for helping individual members achieve personal fitness goals. In addition, every position in the YMCA of Greensboro is responsible for upholding the Judeo-Christian principles that are central to our mission by modeling behaviors that exemplify the four pillars of character - caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
PAY: starting at $20/hr.
HOURS: hours are flexible. Looking for morning 5am and on.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Provides instruction to members on proper operation of equipment in wellness center through one-ing individual members achieve personal fitness goalsts, customers and the general public.always uncluttered and members areon-one and small group training, and gives feedback as necessary.
- Intentionally works to build effective and appropriate relationships with clients, all members and other staff.
- Monitors wellness center for safe use of equipment by all participants, providing appropriate feedback and correction as needed.
- Cleans all equipment in the wellness center ensuring a safe, healthy and positive environment for all.
- Keeps all weights properly stored on racks when not in use to ensure that the free weight area is always uncluttered and members are able to use the equipment based on their own lifting abilities at all times.
- Adheres to all policies and procedures established by the Wellness Director and assertively enforces all Wellness Center safety rules while maintaining a positive customer service approach to the participant.
- Responds to client/member requests within 24 hours of the request.
- Completes administrative tasks related to personal training accurately, including maintaining records of members trained, training schedule and documentation that payment has been made for the training prior to the session.
- Performs fitness testing as requested.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - High school diploma or GED and additional college level fitness training, with three to six months related experience and/or training, or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Six months to one year experience preferred.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write a variety of detailed reports, exercise programs and exercise prescriptions. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public. Ability to solve practical problems.
- Ability to communicate effectively across all socio-economic levels of the community to inspire and encourage effectively participation in all wellness activities.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, reach with hands or arms; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; and use hands to finger, handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance and stoop, crouch or crawl. Employee must be able to occasionally lift and carry weights of more than 100 pounds in assisting members with weight routines.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include peripheral vision, close vision, distance vision and depth perception.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to high places. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- One of the following certification required for hire: ACSM, AFAA, ACE or NSCA (or other certification requiring successful completion of written and practical testing). CPR/AED, First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogen certifications required upon hire.
