JOB PURPOSE:
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Personal Trainer will conduct personal training sessions to the standards of the certification held as well as the YMCA’s mission and philosophy. This job description includes but is not limited to safely designing and implementing appropriate individual fitness programs for members. In addition, personal trainers will educate, stimulate, motivate, and promote adherence to a healthy lifestyle. Staff must strive to work cooperatively with fellow employees to achieve the goals and objectives of the YMCA.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (not a complete list):
- Provide excellent member service by exceeding member expectations; greet and acknowledge all members to encourage wellness participation.
- Monitor the wellness center as fitness members set the equipment to ensure their general safety and equipment function; enforces and models all member codes of conduct, rules and policies including, but not limited to, age restrictions, dress codes, language and proper use of YMCA equipment and facilities.
- Instruct in an energizing, fun, safe, and educational session, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals
- Visually able to observe clients to assure correct training methods, techniques, and positions
- Help maintain a neat, clean and pleasant environment on the Wellness floor.
- Take professional initiative to offer information, promote and sell personal training and additional YMCA health & wellness services & programs.
- Integrate the mission of the YMCA and follow the core values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility into the healthy living aspect of job responsibilities.
- Understand the prevention, detection, and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries, basic emergency procedures, and the legal and professional responsibilities of personal trines.
- Assist with administrative tasks that include keeping accurate records of scheduled, rescheduled and cancelled appointments.
- Attend continuing education, meetings and training as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:Required:
- Must be 18 years old
- Current ACSM, ACE, NSCA, AFAA, NASM, NETA (accredited organizations) certification in personal training.
- Current CPR, AED, 02 and First Aid certifications
- Experience in fitness testing, exercise program design, and teaching appropriate fitness programs to members of varying ages and fitness levels
- Minimum of 2 years in health and fitness field
- Two-year exercise science education, or related field, or minimum of 1 year experience
- Accumulated continuing education credits to maintain certification(s)
- Full working knowledge of the facility’s safety and emergency procedures.
- Ability to recognize participants who are in distress.
- Demonstrate sound judgment in handling issues with staff and members.
- Interpret metric results to clients and, based on evaluation and client's goals, design and implement a fitness program.
