Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Seeking qualified officers to provide services and protection for College properties, interests, students, faculty, supportive staff & guests.
- Enforce College rules and regulations pertaining to traffic and parking, posting of notices, distributing tracts and pamphlets, assemblages of persons, and use of building and grounds.
- Enforce applicable State statutes, City and County ordinances when such are required for the protection of College properties, interest, students, faculty, supportive staff and guests.
- Assist other police agencies surrounding the College upon request, when the performance of those enforcement duties would not remove an officer from the campus.
- Take initial reports of vehicular accidents, thefts, disturbances, injuries, illnesses, assaults, batteries, deaths, and other crimes and incidents, including interviews of victims and witnesses and further investigation of matters for purposes of obtaining evidence, recovering property, preparing cases for court and for making referral to other police agencies so corrective action can be taken in cases of safety or health hazards.
- Provide basic first aid and provide patient care as required until more advanced medical treatment is available as per EMR guidelines.
- Provide information and directions, lock and unlock buildings and rooms, assist motorists locked out of their vehicles, render first aid, monitor, and report and take necessary action in reference to severe weather or similar emergencies, direct vehicular traffic on and off campus when necessary, provide protective escorts for persons legally requesting the same, restrain when necessary, mentally or emotionally disturbed persons and other similar services.
- Provide visible preventative vehicle and foot patrols on campus and report any suspicious activities observed that appear to be criminal in nature.
- Make arrests, station adjustments when necessary.
- Successfully qualify at department range qualification shoots.
- Adhere to department and college rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Completion of the Basic Law Enforcement Academy approved by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB) - required
- An AA and/or BS Degree in Criminal Justice or other related fields preferred.
- Experience
- Must have active service as a certified law enforcement officer within one year of transfer / hire
- Experience in law enforcement field,
- Experience with a College campus environment preferred.
- COD Training required upon hire

Working Conditions:
- Firearms, squad car, teletype, portable FM, restraining devices, chemical mace, first-aid equipment, fire extinguishers, other routine police equipment, and entry devices.
- Exposure to outside weather on a year round basis.
- Assignment to shift work covering a 24 hour, 7 day week schedule with shift rotation.
- May be required to work overtime on short notice.
- Days off are assigned as accommodated by the schedule.
- JOB REQUIREMENTS: Personal: Minimum Age - 21 years.
- Must have a good driver's record with the Illinois Secretary of State's Office or other states.
- Must complete the Emergency Medical Responder training and maintain certification.
- Physical: No amputation of any limb.
- Cannot have color blindness.
- Shall be required to pass a physical, a drug screen test and a psychological examination at College expense.
Good review of past performance is required; no written exam required with good standing.
Power Card must be presented at the time of offer and valid within the last year.
Hiring Range: Lateral/Certified/Recent Law Enforcement Officer Retiree will enter the contract pay at Step 3.
