Employment Information

This is important field work in the enforcement of City parking ordinances and regulations, and the issuing of computerized parking tickets for violations. Work involves patrolling an assigned area; checking vehicles for over-parking and improper parking; issuing tickets to violators using a hand-held portable microprocessor unit and printer; and informing citizens of the various functions and community services provided by the City. Work requires the ability to successfully communicate with the public in sensitive interactions using considerable discretion, calm demeanor, tact, and sound judgment; and working outdoors, including, in unfavorable weather conditions. Work shifts will vary and will require working evenings and weekends.

Salary: $17.32 - $25.90 Hourly**

To Qualify


Minimum Qualifications.
Applicants must:

  • Possess a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver License.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Motorcycle Endorsement - or - must obtain and continue to maintain the Motorcycle Endorsement within five and one-half (5-1/2) months of appointment to the position.
  • Be able to work a flexible schedule including working evenings and weekends.
  • Be skilled in providing excellent customer service and employing excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Be familiar with street names and locations within downtown St. Petersburg.
  • Have previous experience working with the public.

Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:

  • Have some understanding of computer technology.
  • Have previous experience in parking enforcement or a related field.
