Non-Certified Police Officer

POSITION PURPOSE :Under general supervision, performs general law enforcement work to protect the lives, safety, health, welfare and property of the residents and visitors of the City of Cordova Alabama by enforcing municipal, state and federal ordinances, statues and laws. Exercises independent judgment in dealing with dangerous or unusual situations and often works under stressful, high-risk conditions.

Frequency Description

-Responds to radio dispatched calls for service.

-Observes analyzes and evaluates situations to determine appropriate action.

- Reads, interprets and enforces Federal, State, and City laws, codes and ordinances.

- Operates police department vehicles and specialized equipment.

- Prepares and presents clear and accurate written and oral reports.

-Observes, retains, and recalls people, places and situations in detail.

-Ongoing Conducts preliminary and follow up investigations of crimes and traffic incidents.

-Interviews witnesses, collects and preserves evidence.

-Performs self-initiated activities such as traffic stops and citizen contacts.

-Applies community-oriented policing techniques with the community.

-Tasks require a variety of physical activities periodically involving muscular strain related to walking, standing, stooping, sitting and reaching. Essential functions require talking, hearing and seeing. Mental application utilizes memory for details, emotional stability, discriminating thinking and creative problem solving.

-Monitors and directs traffic and crowd control activities and intervenes as necessary.

- Arrests, detains, and apprehends a variety of suspects by use of necessary physical means.

- Responds to emergency calls involving robberies, burglaries, kidnappings, assaults, and homicides.

- Pursues suspects on foot involving running, climbing, jumping, and maneuvering around objects.

-Completes detailed and accurate reports of daily activities, criminal cases, arrests, traffic accidents and other cases as appropriate; presents evidence and testimony in court and other hearings as required.

- Cares for Injured and administers basic emergency medical aid.

- Participates in in-service training.

- Testifies in court when required.

- Administers breathalyzer and roadside tests on suspected intoxicated persons.

- Needed Acts as court bailiff for municipal court.

-Patrols assigned area to deter illegal activities and identify criminal activity in order to preserve the safety and security of individuals, buildings and neighborhoods.

Due to the nature of this job, the Department is open 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

Must be willing to work rotate hours and weekends.

hours can consist of :

  • Weekends

Required Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizen
  • Must be 19 years of age
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license
  • Be of character and reputation to pass an extensive background investigation

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $17.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 – 45 per week
