Position Summary
The MySQL Database Administrator will be the primary administrator that manages our centralized MySQL environment, supporting database instances for departments across the university. They will be responsible for the installation of database software, maintenance, patching, upgrades & migrations, as well as performance tuning. They will be expected to work with end users to diagnose and fix issues as they arise. They will work with a small team of DBA’s that also support various Oracle and SQL Server database environments running on both Windows and Linux. This position is on-call outside standard business hours as part of a scheduled, rotating basis.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
Experience writing SQL; can understand and migrate/upgrade existing SQL databases as well as install a MySQL/MariaDB instance, working with our OS Linux administrators to optimally configure a new installation.
Experience troubleshooting complex database issues and maintaining database disaster recovery procedures in an accurate and timely manner
Self-motivated and proactively seek to stay updated with new technologies and incorporate them to improve existing systems as part of database management and maintenance
Ensure ticket SLA expectations are met.
Work well independently, with end users, in a team environment, and in collaboration with other technical service group teams and departments within VCU.
Demonstrated experience fostering a diverse and inclusive environment and an expressed commitment to do so while at VCU
Preferred Qualifications
5+ years as MySQL Database Administrator; MariaDB, Oracle, & SQL Server experience a plus
Salary Range: $75,000 - $90,000
