Manufacturing Technology Mechanical Engineer

Position Summary

DPE has a position available for an experienced Mechanical Engineer in the LaPlace, Louisiana location. This position reports to the Manufacturing Technology Manager and is responsible for providing day-to-day technical expertise, while leading both strategic long-term projects as well as addressing short-term operational issues.

Essential Job Functions

  • The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for resources to act for the company in matters pertaining to the successful progress and completion of assigned projects.
  • Oversight and direction of all project execution activities, including overall cost, schedule, and plant performance related to the project assigned.
  • The project scope includes engineering, design, equipment procurement, construction procurement, construction management, plant commissioning and start-up, environmental permitting, etc.
  • Develop and lead a high-performing project team that includes the core Denka project members, other functions, external partners, vendors, equipment vendors, and possibly, customer representatives.
  • Accountability for review of unique execution strategies and decision-making processes to address these situations. Lead the internal and/or external problem-solving necessary to arrive at appropriate decisions.
  • Will be the only contact for technical and projects with the customer(s) from project development through project execution on engineering and technical issues.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and support corporate safety goals in the office, suppliers, and fabrication and field sites.
  • Ensure completion of projects within budget and schedule constraints, and according to PSM guidelines.
  • Willing to learn new computer programs and processes to manage projects and MOC (Management of Change)
  • Provides oversight and leadership to on-site contract engineering design group for assigned projects.
  • Manages projects using the gated process.
  • Understands complex project plans, drawing specifications and schedule as well as the resources necessary to complete the project on time and within budget.
  • Ensures accurate and timely project documentation, including but not limited to, RFI's submittals, schedule updates, time records, supplemental work orders, change order pricing, and general project correspondence.
  • Review RFQ/RFP documents for the solicitation of subcontractors and vendors.
  • Coordinate with the Construction Coordinator and Project Field Staff to determine the priority of job when dealing with scheduling conflicts for labor and equipment.
  • Perform regular inspections of all work performed on assigned project. Provides consistent supervision and monitoring of all work performed on assigned projects.
  • QA/QC Inspections may include travel to other states.
  • Works with the Technical Manager on the bid mark-up that is consistent with the volume and profit objectives for the Project and Company.
  • Enforce compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, safety standards and contracts and report all variances to the Technical Manager.
  • Prepare monthly budget forecast and overall yearly spending outlook.
  • Report project and budget status to management monthly. Provide detailed explanation/justification for deviations from forecasted budget and schedule. Determine corrective actions following such deviations.
  • Prepare equipment specifications and write equipment-purchase and project-funding requests.
  • Coordinate training to production, maintenance, and other departments in the proper operation and care of equipment in area of expertise. Develop the necessary training as required.
  • Keep current on recent technology and equipment and evaluate same for use in plant.
  • Maintain all project drawings, files, and specifications as required.
  • Coordinate document control plan to communicate project status and set up of technical files.
  • Contribute to the safe operation of the plant. Lead and participate in 3S Audits.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from ABET Accredited University Program
  • At least 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience.
  • At least 5 years industrial plant experience.
  • Broad based knowledge of mechanical engineering principles in relation to chemical reactors, distillation, heat transfer, mass transfer, thermodynamics, and filtration.
  • Fundamental understanding of PSM systems, high hazard processes and root cause failure analysis.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of corporate standards.
  • Familiarity with RAGAGEP, ASME Code, and API standards.
  • Six Sigma green belt certification a plus.
  • Proven success in leading projects and teams.
  • Proactive and able to work independently, knowing when to collaborate for decision making.
  • Strong communications skills, both written & verbal.
  • Knowledge of SAP, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel required.
  • Experience working in a multinational environment is desirable.
  • Experience working with high alloy materials (C276, B3, Tantalum, etc.) a plus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $125,000.00 - $155,000.00 per year
