The Manager, Commercial Logistics is responsible for key commercial components of global management of transportation, logistics and the customer supply chain Corporate wide to achieve the highest value at the lowest cost while maintaining and improving world class levels of customer service and satisfaction. Provides functional direction to all Rayonier Advanced Materials facilities in North America relative to inbound and outbound transportation and distribution. Scope includes implementing, managing, sustaining, and improving processes to optimize costs and service provided to external and internal stakeholders.
How you’ll shape the future of Sourcing:
- Develops strategies, manages people, processes and information to optimize customer, transportation and production requirements in global markets. Analyzes the results and effectiveness of strategies and adjust accordingly. Performs detailed analyses that compare the alternatives and substitutes.
- Negotiates and manages transportation service agreements, freight rates, terms and documentation for the movement and distribution of goods in both foreign and domestic commerce (truck, rail, ocean, air, warehouses, ports, customs brokers, freight forwarders, etc.). These commercial discussions often include Senior officials (e.g. CEO, COO, SVP, Directors and Managers) of suppliers.
- Review, analyze, revise, negotiate and construct contracts to submit, explain and pursue approvals.
- Oversees the preparation of contracts that are consistent with RYAM policies and practices. Ensures that the required reviews and approvals are received prior to purchase commitments.
- Provides appropriate input into business strategy development, long term planning, annual budgets and monthly forecast. Budget analysis, construction and maintenance. Comparisons and explanations of budget to forecast to actual.
- Leads logistics sourcing activities across Performance Fibers, SEWP and Corporate Office. Ensures the quality and availability of equipment and services are appropriate, conflicts are resolved and continuous improvements are implemented.
- Monitors, evaluates and reports on supplier performance on a regular basis.
- Develops and manages processes to achieve cost-effective, on-time and damage-free delivery of RYAM products. Rationalizes supplier base, solves specific problems and develops strategic commodity purchasing plan.
- Sets customer and transportation service performance objectives and metrics with vendors within this position’s portfolio.
- Works directly with customers and RYAM Sales and SIOP teams to develop logistics strategies as it relates to modes, storage and inventory levels. Assist with the creation of Global Logistics project A3’s, provide reports, data and intelligence inputs and cost saving tracking tool maintenance.
- Actively participates and represents RYAM with key trade associations, governmental officials, and carriers to develop and promote initiatives and legislation that support RYAM transportation long and short term objectives. Evaluates markets for synergies and best practices. Ensures compliance with all relevant logistics-related domestic and international laws and regulations.
You’ll be someone who can bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain or related field. MBA or Master’s degree in Transportation Management preferred.
- At least 10 years’ experience in transportation, supply chain management and/or customer service in an industrial manufacturing environment.
- Experience in Ocean exporting preferred.
- Knowledge of domestic and international logistics, Incoterms, transportation regulations, sales and marketing procedures, finance and accounting principles and order flow management is essential. Knowledge of international culture and business practices is also critical.
