This position will take on the lumber purchasing duties, general management of their department, and help with the operations of the business. Although it’s desirable if you have some construction materials knowledge, it’s not a big deal if you don’t because we will teach you!   • A full-time position with workdays Monday thru Friday, with occasional Saturdays.

Responsibilities:

  • Be organized, accurate, motivated, responsive, proactive and approachable.
  • Interact with yard staff he or she oversees on a daily basis and be aware of what tasks they are working on and/or assign projects and give deadlines if necessary.
  • Conduct monthly staff meetings with both Building Materials & Yard separately as well as quarterly safety meetings.
  • Address yard staff issues promptly. Provide documentation including dates, times, violations, consequences as well as documentation for positive performance. (Provide this information to HR for the employees personnel file). “Addressing” to include year-round communication/coaching with staff
  • Yard staff reviews: Coordinate/participate annually as well as documenting 90-day probation period.
  • Manage yard staff compliance with company policies & procedures.
  • Ability to field customer complaints with compassion and understanding.
  • Work with sales/ yard staff daily to track delivery schedules throughout each day to ensure shipments are built with accuracy and delivered as promised. If possible, consolidate deliveries going in the same direction for maximum efficiency and cost savings. Monitor delivery load size.
  • Make sure staff are aware/educated regarding new products added to inventory.
  • Develop and maintain logic SKU’s and communicate regularly with counter sales staff.
  • Oversee housekeeping of sales/yard areas. Maintain/Improve the overall appearance of the store.
  • Purchasing of building materials for inventory & special-order products. Maintain inventory levels of lumber, sheet goods, concrete, rebar & general yard materials.
  • Research new product offerings, present to the group for review/ feedback.
  • Manage product turns for profitability.
  • Work closely with ownership. Take an active role in providing feedback, suggestions, and insight to improve overall operations to maximize efficiency of our processes.

Qualifications:

  • Possesses leadership abilities and has a demonstrated track record or managing staff.
  • You must be organized, accurate, motivated, responsive, proactive and approachable.
  • Handle stress with positivity and patience. Things will come up but you can’t let them overwhelm you to the point where you let it overtake you. We want someone that is “cool as a cucumber” outside even when they may feel otherwise on the inside.
  • Must interact w/all staff he or she manages on a daily basis and be aware of what tasks they are working on and/or assign projects and give deadlines if necessary.
  • Positive demeanor and an attitude to deliver a superior customer experience.
  • You must have the ability to multitask, stay organized, and prioritize. As a manager, there are several tasks that you must execute to keep the team on task and running smoothly.
  • Ability to clearly communicate. You’ll be communicating with our customers, sales team members, and service team. So you’ve got to approach all of those communications with the right attitude and clear communication to be successful in this position.

Pay: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
