Summary:


Coordinates and administers the Logistics of Cement for the Midwest Region of Ash Grove Cement Company, including balancing of supply and demand, freight negotiations, inventory management, invoicing and SOX compliance. Works regularly with confidential information requiring appropriate discretion. Exercises independent judgment in resolving unusual problems. Works from general policies and objectives. Refers to supervisor when clarification, interpretation or administration of organization policy is in question.


What you’ll be contributing:


  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
  • Maintains relationships with individuals in key positions and establishes an effective acquaintance with industry partners.
  • In conjunction with Director of Logistics, negotiates both rail and truck rates on internal cement transfers.
  • Works with plant production and sales teams, formulating and updating monthly production and shipping schedule.
  • Manages midwestern region railcar fleet to include adequate rail movement between plants and terminals, including lease renewals and demurrage mitigation.
  • Audits all cement invoices and freight bills and oversees timely payment and dispute resolution.
  • Collaborates with plant shipping supervisors and carriers on Canadian cement shipments and customs issues.
  • Secures the most advantageous methods for inter-divisional and inter-terminal transfer of products.
  • Manages cement shipments and handles diversions and re-consignment.
  • Manages logistics of cement supply to all company terminals.
  • Prepares monthly reports.
  • Highly skilled in Microsoft Office
  • Works with the Terminal Operations Manager to keep accurate and up-to-date files of terminal activities for demurrage oversight and bill auditing.
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.


To succeed in this position, you will need:


  • Ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.
  • Minimum 4 Year/ Bachelor’s Degree in transportation, business administration, marketing, or closely related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a transportation service position in the cement industry or other industries involving similar distribution terminal activities..
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a supervisory role, coaching or directing work.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Ability to make decisions and to exercise sound judgment in arriving at a conclusion.
  • Ability to effectively negotiate.
  • Occasional travel up to 15%.
