Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opening for a Senior Logistics Buyer at our Indiana Harbor facility. The following primary position responsibilities and key position requirements are intended to provide an overview of the position but are not all-inclusive.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Develop & implement cost-effective procurement strategies for logistics services including but not limited to Great Lakes vessel, barge, stevedoring, terminal, transload & storage services, and rail.
  • Cover requests for services in a timely manner. Work closely with requestors to determine requirements, evaluate alternatives, seek management approvals, & implement.
  • Handle rate negotiations & bids, administer pricing documents & contracts.
    • Perform detailed price, cost, mode & competitive analysis on services to achieve the lowest total cost.
    • Review & interpret proposals, pricing documents, and contracts; check for accuracy, compare multiple versions of documents, proofread & edit documents.
    • Facilitate approval & signature process,
    • Record, monitor, & notify parties of important dates (expirations, notifications, rebates, renewal dates, etc.), enter key information into Cliffs system(s)
    • Maintain price & contract records and approvals on Purchasing drive. Handle required reporting on contract commitments.
  • Manage relationships with suppliers. Identify potential new suppliers & perform due diligence to qualify them.
  • Perform market research & information gathering in support of the business plan regarding future prices, market & industry trends and risks, opportunities.
  • Monitor expiration dates, handle timely renewals and related price maintenance activities.
  • Work with Purchasing Vendor Maintenance and others as needed to manage and maintain accurate supplier records in Cliffs systems. Support timely, accurate vendor payments.
  • Stay informed about the industry, market trends, supply-demand changes, supplier base, regulatory changes, and the like; provide timely information to management.
  • Collaborate with Cliff's subsidiaries and affiliates for best practices, benchmarking, bids and other activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Advanced reading comprehension & interpretation skills, excellent written communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree (business, finance, supply chain or related preferred).
  • Analytical, quantitative financial & economic skills.
  • MS Office suite, advanced Word (editing functions, tracking changes, document compare, formatting, etc.) & Excel capability, Powerpoint.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and work on multiple projects and requests concurrently. Strong work ethic, willing & able to put in extra time and effort to meet deadlines and cover business demands.
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills, ability to manage and interpret data and documents.
  • Capable researcher & investigator: markets, reference manuals, rules & regulations, internet, maps, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong reader and learner.
  • Knowledge of contract terms & provisions for services, administration, and general knowledge of contract law.
  • Knowledge of transportation documents & procedures, i.e., tariffs, circulars, contracts, leases, bill of lading, carrier invoices, and customs documents.
  • MBA and/or CPSM (or CPM).
  • Negotiating experience or aptitude.
  • Basic knowledge of customs administration & regulations for international shipments, Incoterms, etc.
  • Knowledge of regulations for hazardous material shipments, risk management, insurance.
