Job Description

The Department of Management (DOM), Division of Information Technology (DoIT) is seeking an Information Technology Specialist 5, Senior Database System Administrator who will provide information technology support across all divisions at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, skilled IT professional to provide advanced technical support in SQL infrastructure and other related services. In this role, you will apply your knowledge to support and aid the SQL solutions utilized by DOM DoIT.

Daily responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Working closely with vendors to identify and resolve any issues in functionality and interoperability of applications, cloud-based infrastructure, and other related services and related existing IT systems.
  • Managing and coordinating internal technologies that are not yet updated to a High Availability Deployment or Cloud SaaS/PaaS solutions.
  • Investigating, developing, and executing transition plans for the remaining infrastructure.
  • Helping develop and support an automated CI/CD environment.
  • Ensuring established service level agreements are met or exceeded.
  • Maintaining strong communication, and regularly reporting the status of all initiatives to IT leadership.
  • Ensuring all applicable security, governance, and best practices are followed across all services. This includes maintaining required logs, log reviews, and policy automation.
  • Attending required trainings, meetings, and seminars to provide expertise and recommendations to meet department goals.
  • Maintaining expertise in technologies such as Microsoft SQL Server, Windows Cluster, Azure SQL, and other cloud SQL solutions (AWS, OCI).
  • Participating in on-call rotation.
Preference given to those with Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator Certifications

Background Check Requirements:
  • After a conditional offer of employment has been made, and as the final step in the hiring process, candidates for this position will be subject to a background investigation, which may include but may not be limited to a verification of a candidate’s education, previous employment/work history, contact of personal references, motor vehicle records, and a criminal history check (including through Federal, State, or Local criminal justice agencies).

Only applicants who meet the Minimum Qualification Requirements and meet all selective requirements will be placed on the eligible list.

Selectives

419 PC/LAN Server:
6 months experience, 12 semester hours, or a combination of both in the following:

  • Generating, testing and maintaining LAN/server system software
  • Installing and maintaining PC hardware and software
  • Creating data sets using a variety of software packages
  • Combining and converting data sets from different formats and sources to be used in spreadsheets, databases, and graphics software packages
  • Producing final data summaries and reports using standard statistical procedures
  • Producing final tables and graphics using various software packages
OR

077 NT Administration:
6 months experience, 12 semester hours, or a combination of both that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of Windows NT Server Administration.

OR

413 Network Coordination:
6 months experience, 12 semester hours, or a combination of both involving:
  • Installing and configuring network software
  • Maintaining security
  • Establishing operating standards
  • Performing technical support for networks

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

1) Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in any field, and experience equal to three years of full-time work in: operating a multi-job computer; installing, operating, and coordinating computer-based networks; installing/maintaining database management systems; developing business application processes; developing/operating system programs; installing/maintaining personal computers, Local Area Networks, and/or servers; managing operating systems; developing/delivering information management training; providing Information Technology (IT) customer service; designing/administering websites; or executing technology projects (e.g., systems analysis, requirements, design, development, and testing).


2) All of the following (a and b):

a. Three years of full-time work experience in: operating a multi-job computer; installing, operating, and coordinating computer-based networks; installing/maintaining database management systems; developing business application processes; developing/operating system programs; installing/maintaining personal computers, Local Area Networks, and/or servers; managing operating systems; developing/delivering information management training; providing Information Technology (IT) customer service; designing/administering websites; or executing technology projects (e.g., systems analysis, requirements, design, development, and testing); and

b. A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in part a), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience.


3) All of the following (a and b):

a. Three years of full-time work experience in: operating a multi-job computer; installing, operating, and coordinating computer-based networks; installing/maintaining database management systems; developing business application processes; developing/operating system programs; installing/maintaining personal computers, Local Area Networks, and/or servers; managing operating systems; developing/delivering information management training; providing Information Technology (IT) customer service; designing/administering websites; or executing technology projects (e.g., systems analysis, requirements, design, development, and testing); and

b. Certification by an authorized educational institution/major computer or software producer in an area directly related to one of the computer specialty fields described in part a.


4) All of the following (a and b):

a. Three years of full-time work experience in: operating a multi-job computer; installing, operating, and coordinating computer-based networks; installing/maintaining database management systems; developing business application processes; developing/operating system programs; installing/maintaining personal computers, Local Area Networks, and/or servers; managing operating systems; developing/delivering information management training; providing Information Technology (IT) customer service; designing/administering websites; or executing technology projects (e.g., systems analysis, requirements, design, development, and testing); and

b. Eighteen semester hours of accredited post-high-school coursework in one of the specialty fields described in part a.


5) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes six months of fulltime work as an Information Technology Specialist 4.
