Human Resources Generalist
JOB DESCRIPTION
OVERVIEW: Riverwards Produce is a group of produce focused markets in Philadelphia.
The Human Resource Generalist will run the daily functions of the Human Resource (HR) department including enforcing company policies and practices. The position is designed to maximize employee performance while making them feel comfortable and accepted into our culture and workplace. Human Resources is primarily focused on managing people within the organization focusing on policy and systems. HR is responsible for talent acquisitions, hiring systems, training development, performance reviews, benefits, employee data management and succession planning.
Reports to: CEO
Daily Responsibilities:
- Review, track, and document compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications.
- Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
- Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
- Implements new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.
- Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
- Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
- Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Create systems to manage and secure employee data
- Organize, supervise, evaluate and implement employee training programs
- Research and consult on compensation and benefits
- Create improvement plans for employee performance with department managers
- Develop employee retention programs
- Establish a talent scouting and recruitment strategy by sourcing and building relationships with candidates
- Craft policies that support internal promotion
- Supervise onboarding and team-building efforts
- Act as a mentor to employees and guide them in career progression
- Collaborate with COO to support formal store policies
- Support CEO in any tasks needed
Requirements:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
- Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
- Experience in retail business and startups preferred
- Well versed in Microsoft Excel, basic networking, Apple IOS and Google Business suite
- Passion for the principles of sustainable food and farming
- A team player with a willingness to jump in and help with all store tasks
- Ability to roll with the punches of a rapidly growing start-up business
- Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organizations HRIS and talent management systems.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
- Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in retail management, human resources, or organizational development
- SHRM-CP a plus.
COMPENSATION: Compensation is salaried and begins at $65k . Riverwards Produce provides a 20% discount on all store products. Benefits include health, dental and medical insurance (for full time employees), paid parental leave, Employee Assistance Program and Paid Time Off.
