The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for leading and supporting day-to-day human resources efforts and assisting and serving as a backup for the HR Manager with all HR tasks. This role administers human resources policies and programs, balancing employee advocacy and business operating needs. The HR Generalist will promote equity, fair treatment, and positive employee relations and ensure compliance with state and federal employment laws. Functional areas supported include employee relations, training, staffing, hiring, onboarding, offboarding, performance management, compensation, benefits, payroll assistance, internal and external compliance, record retention and safety.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Possesses knowledge on topics related to HR legal matters
  • Maintains company compliance with OFCCP standards for government contractors, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), affirmative action, Service Contract Act (SCA), and wage and hour laws
  • Reviews and approves corrective action by leadership team
  • Handles unemployment claims, appeals, and hearings for all states in which the company does business
  • Oversees hiring process and onboarding for all hourly positions
  • Works with IT in arrangement for equipment needs for new hires
  • Oversees background check and pre-hire assessment process
  • Responsible for outreach to programs for hiring veterans, those who have disabilities, and minorities
  • Interprets, applies, and explains employment laws, company policies, rules and procedures to management and non-management staff and monitors related activity to ensure consistency and appropriateness
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality concerning all company matters including, but not limited to, personnel actions, legal actions, terminations, and organizational plans
  • Serves as a point of contact with regard to employee relations issues, and assists employees and management by providing guidance and coaching, as well as conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations, reports the findings, recommends and assists with implementation of resolution
  • Presents New Hire Orientation for new employees – including completing all new hire paperwork, discussed policies and procedures of company and client specific requirements according to work instructions
  • Assists with the administration of all benefits programs, including but not limited to, health, dental, vision, life, and 401K, explains benefits programs, updates employee benefit coverage records, responds to employee inquiries regarding benefits, distributes informational literature to employees, processes enrollments, changes, and terminations
  • Maintains records for employee information such as personnel actions, personnel data, compensation, benefits, tax data, attendance, performance review and termination date and reason
  • Assists with processing employment verification, state benefits, LOA, and other administrative items
  • Administers the site Worker’s Compensation program by preparing and filing claims and reports of accidents and injuries, including the light-duty return to work program
  • On an as needed basis, participate on various HR committees established to resolve employment challenges
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field; PHR or other HR certification preferred
  • At least 5 years of Human Resources Generalist experience
  • Working knowledge of the major functional areas of HR including recruiting/staffing, policy administration, employee relations, benefits/payroll administration, and state and federal employment laws including but not limited to FMLA, COBRA, ADA, USERRA
  • Excellent communication (spoken, written, and presentation) skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish

  • Planning and Organizing – prioritizes and plans work activities, uses time efficiently, and develops realistic action plans; is able to manage several projects and tasks simultaneously
  • Working relationships – ability to demonstrate confidence and gain the trust of employees and management by maintaining positive working relationships

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $55,000.00 - $72,000.00 per year
